Ala. You aren't lost, are you?
Ala
What?! 😳 Of course not!
I slowed to a stop, my duffel bag whispering against the creases of my shirt as the lamp post flickered above in a shuffle between orange and white.
Come to think of it. Haven't I passed through here before?
Rena
It's been a bit over thirty minutes now. Sara says she'll eat all the snacks if you aren't here before 8. 😅 I'm doing all I can to keep it away from her.
Rena
What street are you currently? Need help? You know you would have been here faster if you had taken the bus. . .
Ala
Relax, my legs work just fine😤
Ala
I just heard . . . Come to think of it, is there any curfew going on in your area?
Rena
Why do you ask? Don't tell me you've gotten the directions wrong?!😰
I shot a pensive look across the street and looked back, seeing nothing. It was quiet. A little too quiet.

A chill ran up my back and as a cool rush of wind kicked up around me. My arms shot up to push the hair out of my face when I opened my eyes and an unseeing darkness.
I stiffened, my heart hammering as a slithering voice vibrated the hairs at the top of my head.
Why can't I see anything?
Tor
It's Tor 😒 Misplace my name next time and your eyes won't see the next moon-
My legs sprung to life and I dashed forward, my heart clamouring against my ribcage as I tried to wrap my head against what was happening.
I tripped over what felt like a rock and the ground smacked me in the side of my face.
I swallowed a muffled whimper and lushed myself up, eager to get away from wherever this place was.
Who were those people? How did I even get here? Where is this place?

My heart jolted in my chest at the hoarse voice dripping with a sweetness that was deadly saccharine. A set of freezing thin fingers clamped around my wrist.
I thrashed around in the deal, throwing kicks and slaps wherever I could, but the grip only tightened.
I made one final attempt of a kick and stomped hard.
The cold hands loosened and I wrenched free, clutching my numb wrist as I rushed forward, streams of sweat dripping down the base of my neck from a nonexistent heat.
A warm hand snagged mine and my scream died in my throat as it dragged me sideways with a frightful tug that sent me reeling. . .
