What a cold night.....
I hugged myself tightly for warmth in the chilly weather
The moon is hiding behind the night sky
I tried my best to walk on with shaky legs
But it's really tough when you can't see well

Ahh....I'm so tired.....
My eyes started to get blurry
I could feel fatigued was about to overtake me
Out of nowhere, a bright white light completely blinds me
And just as suddenly everything becomes black again
In the pitch-black darkness, I suddenly saw scenes flying past me
It's like I'm watching an old movie
A movie about my very harsh, unlucky life
I couldn't remember my parent's faces anymore
I was left in front of an orphanage one night, and never saw them again
Bully boy
Hey, look! It's the ugly piggy, Emerson!
Bully boy
Haha! You're so ugly that even your parents don't want you!
For some reason, I never understand, wherever I go, people just don't like me
No matter how hard I try to make friends, no matter how much I try to get along
Doing whatever it takes to fit in, I'm just never accepted

Soon, I learned that trying to fight back is of no use
The more you fight back, the harder they push you to the ground
Even though it hurts, even though it makes me want to disappear.....I won't ever let them see me cry

I just want to feel like I belong somewhere

Aww... So sorry for dropping it into the pool. I'm such a klutz.
I could only watch all of my school books and stationery sink deep into the pool
I kept trying to break free and save my things
But how can you fight off 3 bullies alone?

Don't worry I'm sure parents can get you a new one right?

Oh, wait! You don't have any! Hahahaha

You are really pathetic, Emerson!
Once they left me alone I dove deep into the pool to get back all my things
My tears disappeared along with the pool water........

The moment I was old enough to leave, I did a various part-time jobs
It was nice to live independently
But once again life brought me down
I kept testing my will, to live on this earth

Please! I just lost my apartment!

I really have nowhere else to go! I'll do anything!

The restaurant manager for whom I worked for years pushed me out the back door
I winched painfully, falling on the tar road
The 50-year-old man tossed my only bag filled with clothes into a puddle of dirty water

And just like that, my life crumbled into nothingness
No family, no friends, no parents, no job and no home...
I just kept walking aimlessly down that dark alleyway
I wanted to cling onto any slime glimmer of hope

I just want it all to end already
Once that dreamlike movie ended, I heard some voices coming from distance
My eyes flattered when I opened them by seeing an unfamiliar, desolate landscape

Where the heck am I?
I quickly sat up, my eyes whipping left and right
[This is not the alleyway]
I was sitting in the middle of a lifeless wasteland

How did I even get here....?
I stopped studying the place when I heard voices coming from somewhere
I turned back and saw two figures
[Scrach that, they are arguing!]
I slowly tried to get on my feet
But my legs just got extremely shaky instead
I fell back to the ground
It's as if there is some sort of force that won't let me move
Still, I couldn't help myself trying to hear them
I realised the two figures were male
And they were definitely on a heated argument
Katsumi
Why can't you place your trust in me just like the other times?
Oliver
This is not a matter of trust
Oliver
This is a matter of you wasting your hard-earned wish
Katsumi
Have I let you down before?
Oliver
I know you never have, but you don't understand how serious your request is
Katsumi
You said you would grant me any wish, Oliver
Katsumi
Then with all due respect, this is my only wish, I won't ask for anything else
Both of them were locked in an intense staring contest
I can see one of them presumably Oliver, sigh in defeat
Oliver
Since you seem so sure, I would grant your wish
Katsumi
Thank you so much I'll make sure you won't regret it

Oh it's not me who's going to have any regrets.

I will grant your wish, but only under one condition
The moment the other man nodded I couldn't hear them anymore
Their voices turned into hushes and urgent whispers

Darn it just when it came to the good part...
After a moment one of them gave a quick nod
And the two-man moved to shake hands
As if it's a scene straight out of a fantasy movie I could see lights swirling around them
It's so strange, but I could feel some sort of power emitting from them
[I'm dreaming. I'm definitely dreaming]
When the light show was finally over
The man named Oliver waved his hand
And a round portal came in front of him
He disappeared into it leaving the other man alone
Emerson
Why am I even thinking like that? Portals are normal thing aren't they?
I clapped my mouth shut when the other man turned his head towards my detection
He didn't waste any time striding quickly towards me
[Oh no, Oh no no no, he's going to kill me just for eavesdropping?]
I tried to get up again but the same force pushed me down

He stared at me with wide eyes for a few seconds
And then bursts into laughter

I am so glad to see you're in good spirits
He gave me a gentle smile
I still had my guard up, wary of this strange man
He waved his hand around and all of a sudden I felt light
[What the heck! I can feel my legs now]

You couldn't get up just now, right?

I am really sorry, but I just placed a binding spell so you wouldn't wander off
I could only stare at him with confusion
His gentle smile still hadn't left from his lips
He offered his hand to me

Let me help you up, at least, as an apology
I hesitantly placed my hand in his
He easily pulled me and made me stood up

Where am I? What is this place? How did I even get here?

Whoa, whoa one at a time, please, just take a deep breath for now

The strangers smile trembled a bit
I could feel a hint of sadness in his eyes as he looked at me intensely

There's no way around this

Linney, you just passed away and this is the afterlife
I blinked at him a few times waiting for him to say this is all a prank
But seeing his sad smile and this strange place, it must be true
I took a deep shaky breath to brace myself for what was coming

If this is the afterlife, then it means you are....?

Ah! Forgive me for being rude. My name is Katsumi. I'm a Grim Reaper
Hearing his confident answer and title just confirmed it all
I squared up my shoulder, facing him readily
I didn't feel a shred of hesitance

I see, in that case, I fully accept my passing, I'm ready to move to the other side
I was expecting him to start reading my sins and good deeds
Instead, he just kept staring at me
It was making me feel a little self conscious

Uhh.... did I say something wrong?
He blinked a few times as if I had just woken him up

There was some sort of an ethereal feeling surrounding him

After a moment he broke out staring contest with another smile
