My eyes slowly open. I hear the sounds of the waves crashing.

“Hello? Are you awake?”

The woman lying on the shore looked besides her and saw a man.

“Where am I?” The woman said.

He replied,“You’re on Gem Island.”

“How did I get here?”

“I don’t know. You must’ve fell in the water during the huge storm last night.”

The woman felt an ache in her head and she touched it. There was blooding flowing down her face.

“Oh my gosh! You’re bleeding! I’ll take you to the village doctor! Follow me!”

The woman followed the man and he led her to a village. They walked into a hut.

“Village Doctor! I have a patient for you!”

An elderly woman came and brought her medical equipment with her. She was putting her equipment on the table as she asked, “What’s your name, Miss?”

The woman’s face darkened.

“Um...I don’t remember who I am.”

The village doctor replied, “You don’t even know your name?!”

“No.”

The doctor walked up the woman and asked her all sorts of questions.

“How old are you?”

“Where are you from?”

“Do you know how you got here?”

“Where does your family live?”

The young lady responded by saying, “I don’t know,” to all of the questions.

The doctor went up to the young man and said, “It seems as if this young lady lost her memories, due to being hit on the head. That’s why her head is bleeding.”

“Oh. Is there a chance that she could gain her memories back?”

“There is a chance, but it is very small. The injury on her head made a huge impact on her memories. Just let her stay on the island for a few days. If she still doesn’t remember, then we’ll make a house for her to live in.”

“Okay. I’ll just show her around the island and get her calm. She must be scared right now, since she just woke up in a random place without knowing anything.”

“Okay.”

The young man left with the woman and said, “Oh! I haven’t introduced myself to you. My name is Liam Tang. I’ve been living on this island for ten years.”

“It’s nice to meet you.”

Liam realized that the young woman was looking down and the air around her was very cold and depressing. Her facial expression showed that she was thinking very hard.

There was a short silence and the woman finally said, “Um...I don’t remember my name. I don’t know what you should call me.”

Liam felt bad for her. She was very pitiful, since she lost her family, friends, and memories in just a short amount of time. It must’ve been hard to get used to a new environment.

“I’ll think of a name for you!”

He started to think hard, and he thought of many names.

“What do you think about Sarah?”

“Um...no.”

“Well then, what about Lin?”

“No.”

“Sandra? Grace?”

The woman kept quiet while he said many other names, until she heard him say, “What about Kim?”

Her head and heart started to pound at the same time when he said that name.

Liam saw that she had an uncomfortable expression and asked, “Are you okay?”

“Let’s go with Kim. I like that name.”

“Okay! Kim, I’ll give you a tour around the island.

She followed Liam as he walked down the shore.

They were almost at the village when a sharp pain went through Kim’s head. It felt as if someone was punching her head from the inside.

Her fists went up and they pounded on her head, trying to stop the pain.

“Are you okay? What’s wrong?! Kim!”

He held her wrists to stop her from hitting her head. When he did that, the throbbing in her head stopped.

“I’m sorry for startling you. My head started to hurt. It’s probably because of the injury.”

“No need to apologize. Just try not to hurt yourself if the pain in your head comes back.”

“Okay.”

“We’ll postpone the tour until tomorrow. You should rest, just in case the pain comes back again.”

Liam led her to an big island house near the shore.

“This is my house. There is an empty area besides my house. If you end up living here, I’ll ask the village people if they could construct a house for you in that spot. But for now, you’ll have to use the guest room in my house.”

As they went into the house, Liam led her to the guest room and left as soon as he saw that she was comfortable.
