[JUNGKOOK FF] The Winter That You Came
Author: Laaibah Ullah
It was winter. In the end of all of it, it all vanished. Y/N couldn't keep her promise.
Snowflakes fell one after the other, greeting everything it saw. Each of them was unique with its own design. They were perfect in this unperfected world. The sound of crunches in the white snow as she started to take small footsteps that came together in pairs. At least they have each other, she thought. Just like everything else around her . There was at least two of each object. The abandoned cars, the empty houses, the connected roads. But there was only one her. Only one person left in this empty city. And she couldn't bring them back. Anymore..
Y/N looked up. The night sky was filled with only one star. That gave her courage. It gave her hope. What if there's at least one more chance to sort out this mess? What if there's another one like me? Those kind of questions kept popping up in her mind. But then again, it's going to happen again anyway so what's the point?, she contradicted. But also thought that if she had chance she the might as well take it. She could've regretted if she didn't .
After Gathering all the chances and courage she had, she started to make more traces of her that sunk deep into the snow. She kept thinking about her newly-made destination, Seoul. Seoul contains the most population in the country of South Korea.
Y/N headed to one of the recent cars that wasn't buried too much into snow. Praying that its key to start it would be somewhere close to me. She carefully but quickly started to look if the keys were hiding next to it. Then she saw it, half-buried in the snow. The car-keys. Full of joy, she started the car. Fortunately on her side, the car contained enough fuel to drive to Seoul.
Hidden inside her inner pocket was her phone. Y/N had trusted her phone. 'No connection'. Never mind, I doesn't trust my phone, she thought. The phone was in an unhabitable environment.
It was a destroyed city with hardly anything left of it after all. All the buildings were gone as if they were not even there in the first place. As if that everything she knew was just a lie in her memory. There wasn't even a lined graveyard. There weren't dead bodies in the open. There weren't playgrounds. There weren't skyscrapers that proudly touched the tip of the skies. It all sunk down deep into the Earth's Core. And it was all of because of her. All of it. She killed those people. She couldn't save them in the end. Because of her...
She wiped the tears that were slowly forming in her eyes. The guilt was unbearable. Every moment since that day had been hell. She guessed that the diety above decided that if she couldn't die then go to hell, they would make her life a living hell. Fiery pits whenever she took a step. Not being able to breathe properly due to the amount heaviness on her shoulders. But what could she have done? She was born like that, which made things worse. She hated herself. She hated everything. Her life, her decisions, her feelings. She tried killing herself multiple times but every time, a diety would somehow make it hard again. They brought her back.
"Turtle Rabbit Kim, Any abnormalities?"
Huh? I'm not Turtle Rabbit Kim-
Before she could think of anything else another voice spoke. The woman's voice was deep. You could tell of how she spoke that she was good person.
"No abnormalities just yet. But I see a silhouette." She answered.
Was she talking about Y/N? This place was filled with snow as it was snowing. So much so that snow roamed the air. Therefore, it concluded to her that the woman was talking about her. After all, she was and could only be the one there. Everyone else died after all.
The walkie-talkie spoke again. "Turtle Rabbit Kim. May you go and check what it is?"
"I'm not the only one here. Justin Seagull is here too." She whisper-shouted.
Not long after, Y/N saw herself walking towards two humans. One a girl ;one a boy. It looked like they were whispering amongst themselves but she couldnt make out the words. Soon after, the boy walked up to her. His features were insane. All she could say, he was handsome. She couldn't help but to stare into his deep, longing eyes. They were soft but had a deep meaning of despair. It was like she was staring into a beautiful-sad abyss.
"Are you okay?" He asked. His voice was in the perfect tone.
"No" she answered truthfully. She couldn't lie. It was one of the curses that she was set with.
"Justin Seagull, is there something wrong?" Tutrle Rabbit Kim spoke. It came through with the walkie-talkie.
The boy, Justin Seagull, answered back. "No. It's alright" He kept staring at Y/N while saying those words. Like he was not only just talking to the girl but her aswell.
"It's alright. Everything."
Y/N eyes followed his eyes. His eyes followed hers. Without thinking of anything, she ran to him. Her arms embracing him like there was no tomorrow. She didn't care what anyone thought. She just needed warmth. Tears running down through each cheek. The memories blurring along with her sight. But she didn't want to keep thinking about it.
Due to her sudden hug, his walkie-talkie dropped from his hand. He was startled at first but willingly hugged her back. Her arms around his waist. His arms around hers. His hand lifted to her head as he gave her little strokes. His gestures calmed her .
"Are you hugging a stranger now?" He laughed.
Indeed she was hugging a stranger right now but she couldn't help it. His soft eyes and friendly aura made her feel like she could trust him. And how he didn't question but still stroked her hair. It's like he would give anything just to understand someone. He was her comfort right now.
She adjusted her head on his chest. "Save me." she whisper-cried.
................
"She's here with me right now..... Yes. I have it. It's not much. Will that be okay?..... Okay, I'll come." Justin Seagull lightly answred back. He knew that if he spoke too loud, the girl that was sleeping on the very couch next to him would wake up. He gazed back at her. Just double checking that she's fine.
He gets up, heading to the kitchen. He figured that the girl didn't eat any food. She was in a deserted place after all. There could be no way food was still consumed there.
He wondered why she might have been the only person roaming there. He never encountered a single person there throughout the whole of his life.
The place was abondoned randomly one day. Ever since, no one dared to enter saying they would experience a lifetime-experience. They said it was like falling into an abyss for eternity until someone wakes you up. There were even reports of lots people randomly sinking into random random quicksand but when they look back, it's like it was never there. No one ever crossed into the middle of that place. But she came from there.
She could have been another one of those ghost vloggers getting lost but getting that deep in? It seemed nearly impossible for him to comprehend.
Coming back to reality, he cooked up some breakfast. Eggs and bread. It was the only food he had at the moment so he hoped that the girl would like it. Leaving the breakfast on the table where she could instantly see it, he left to go to meet one of his coworkers. The girl he was working with when rescuing Y/N. She wanted to know more about Y/N so had asked to meet him.
A few hours later, Y/N awoke from her slumber. She took a look around. She didn't recognise the place. Was it a dream? She couldn't believe that. She only had one dream since that day. The same dream repeating itself every night.
The dreams was of him. She felt as if killed him. She knew the consequences but still told him. Because she thought that if she did, everything would get better. But it became worse.
Agitated, Y/N got up. She opened the windows, staring out to the never-ending darkness. It was night, she must've slept a lot. Dazing to the stars again, she realised that another star had been added. There were two stars in the empty night sky now. You've been there since the end and start, she thought.
"I miss you." She said herself. Although, it seemed more as if she was talking to one of the stars.
Just then, she heard someone entering the apartment she was in. Swiftly and quietly, she made sure she hid in a place they won't find her in. In the wardrobe.
"I gave her some breakfast to have- Oh she didn't eat it." A voice said. It was familiar to her. Justin Seagull?
Another person laughed. "Are you sure she's here?" This voice was unfamiliar. It was new. She tried to peek through the holes of the wardrobe to see whose face it belongs to but found no luck.
"She might have gone somewhere."Justin Seagull explained.
The other guy gave no answer but just nodded his head. His eyes followed to the windows. "Why is this opened? Don't you need a key?" He asked.
Justin Seagull immedietly looked to his direction. "What? Baekyun, can you repeat that" He asked. He couldn't believe this either. This apartment needed to be protected at all costs. It had documents that could be used to tackle the government in seconds. Therefore, his windows were made of very strong glass-plastic fibre and had locks to them that could only be unlocked with either his fingerprint or the keys that he takes with him 24/7. The only person he let inside this home was the mysterious girl.
"The windows. They're open and unlocked." The guy said again
Y/N held in her breath. She wondered if she did something bad. Is opening a window really that bad? What if she can't stay anymore? Are they going to kick her out? Her eyebrows furrowed. Wasn't this a dream in the first place? She giggled. All types of things came into her mind. Everything she ever wanted to do, she could do it here.
Justin Seagull and the guy, after hearing the giggle, slowly approached where they thought it was most likely to be coming from. 'Jungkook, go to the other side.' The guy mouthed. Justin Seagull, Jungkook, nodded. He went to the other side like he said. Each of them were either sides of the wardrobe, holding the doors. They were prepared to catch the culprit, who they thought was a burglur in this case.
Y/N held the doors of the door wardrobe. She was ready. Ready to do whatever she wants in this lucid dream. She didn't care what anyone in her dream thought. It was a dream after all. Just a dream.
The friends outside the wardrobe opened the wardrobe but before they could the mysterious girl, Y/N, did it for them. She jumped up and down the room happily like she had no worries. Her arms spread apart; her smile so wide from ear to ear. It was the happiest she'd ever been in a long time.
"Baekyun-Hyung, should we calm her down or something? She's acting a bit.... You know" Jungkook motioned some swirls near his ear, indicating 'crazy'.
The other guy, Baekhyun, shakes his head no. "Let her be. This might be her happiest moments. She was there you know. The place. I'm sure it wasn't so happy." He said. Jungkook just nodded, agreeing to his Hyung's decision.
Y/N jumped to sofa, feeling the comfort and softness of it. She hadn't felt this in a long time either. She headed to the plate of the egg and bread. Tasting the fluffiness of the bread and perfectly cooked eggs. She closed her eyes, savouring the taste of homecooked food. It wasn't much but was so much to her.
She got up and headed to the first door she saw. The door of the exit. Jungkook and Baekhyun widened their eyes. She wasn't allowed to escape. It would cause problems like trying to find her back. She was yet another witness but a special one.
They ran to Y/N to try to stop her but was dumb-founded. She stroked and held the door handle. It was weird to them but to her it was special. So many happy memories came back to her. She stood there, reminiscing the old times. Yet another smile fell upon her lips. But this time it was a sad smile.
Y/N took a deep a deep breath now walking to the kitchen. Jungkook and Baekhyun didn't dare to take another step. They thought to just let her be on her own. She wasn't as free as she is now after all. Trapped into a deep deserted city must have felt really lonely.
She took a glance inside the fridge, checking if there was any ingredients. Eggs. There were only eggs. Just about two or three. There were a fee water bottles but most of them were empty.
Even though there was so little she was grateful. Just to even see these again. She smiled.
"I'm sorry there's so little." Jungkook apologised. But Y/N shook her head, indicating that it was fine.
She shut the door to the fridge and leaned against. "By the way, What are your names? I should at least know that. I'm Y/N" She asked. She never got to know them. They seemed like such kind and respectful people.
"I'm Baekhyun and this is Jungkook. " Baekhyun answered, putting his hand out to Jungkook to introduce him. "We're not that off, just.. 5 years?"
Y/N slowly nodded her head. "Baekhyun and Jungkook", She repeated.
She thought tor a while. Wondering if she should say something more or not. 'What if they try save me again? But it's a dream?' she thought. But it seemed so real. She couldn't tell if it was a dream or a reality. She should would like it if she was in real life. That way, she could have one last chance. So she took it. She took the chance. If this was a reality, she would be have another chance in trying. If it was dream, it would only be temporary and not real. Even an author doesn't know if their stories would go viral but they give a chance to themselves.
"Baekhyun, Jungkook, Thank you for everything you have done for me." She confessed. Baekhyun nodded grateful and happy to the words but Jungkook was confused. He'd seen a few dramas and they say thank you when they're about to leave. Is she going to leave them?
"I'm sorry for troubling you." She continued. By now, both of them were alert. They knew something was up. Y/N took the knife that Jungkook used to cut the bread. But Jungkook knew her next move. He couldn't let that happen. She shouldn't die. She can't. He needed her as a witness. Or else all the effort that he built up these years would all go away. He wanted a chance that would elevate his position and it was her. Because she was special.
Y/N quickly picked it up, trying to aim at her wrist. But unfortunately for her, Jungkook got in the way. Only her finger was cut. Blood quickly seeping through the layers of skin. The knife slid to the other side of the room.
Baekhyun's eyes widened. The scene was predicted (by him) but he didn't it would actually come true.
"Are you crazy!? You could have died!!" Jungkook exclaimed. He was angry for sure. He just saved this girl and then she tries to die again? Besides, it's not like anyone can pay for her funeral fees.
Y/N looked down and smiled. That's when she realised, it wasn't a dream but a reality. She felt the pain from her finger.
Baekhyun quickly rushed to the scene, first wiping her blood with his handkerchief. Later then washing it off and aiding it. "Are you okay?" He asked. Y/N just nodded her head, deciding to not giving a response. He rubbed her back comfortingly, trying his best to understand how she must have felt to try when she is finally free.
Jungkook sat down with them. He just stared at the two. He passed down a document. 'DNA Test Results'. After quickly skimming through it, Baekhyun stood up. He couldn't believe what was written on it. He'd never experienced a situation like this. It was actually new for the both of them, Jungkook and Baekhyun. However, it wasn't like that for Y/N. This had happened before. Before the city was destroyed. They had a full check on her since they were curious too.
Jungkook and Baekhyun stared at Y/N. They were skeptical of what they had let in the apartment.
"Who are you really, Y/N ? You're not even registered."
