Our Heart Lock

Nara can see things that people can’t see. She is always alone until she bump into a spirit that change her life.

Nara is a special child. Ever since she is little no one wants to be her friend so she would always be lonely.

Even though no one likes to be with her, she always find a way to enjoy herself. She likes to draw and cook to keep her busy.

Nara is a very happy child until both her parents passed away due to a car accident when she is in middle school.

Nara got sent to live with her grandparents in the country side. She love it there way more than living in the city.

Nara love the fresh air and the bright mornings in the country side. She enjoys every moment of it with her grandparents.

Nara is now in her second year in high school. She made a couple of friends at her school. People in the country side are way more friendly than in the city.

Even though she made some friends, she didn’t tell them her special ability because she’s afraid they might leave her.

One summer day Nara go out to hike with her grandparents. They were at the bottom of the hill when there’s another trail going to the right.

Nara got curious.

“Grandmother...I want to go this way,” Nara said. Her grandparents look at the way she’s pointing to.

“Nara, I think it’s not safe to go alone. We will go next time,” her grandfather said. Nara look down sadly.

“Please....I’ll be back by the time you two be here again,” Nara said to them. They shake their head and Nara smile happily.

Nara enter the trail alone and she can sense something. She keep her calm and keep walking along the trail.

She notice she’s going deeper into the forest. Then she notice a house on the side and there’s a trail to it.

She take the trail to check it out. She got there and she notice that someone must be living there.

The house is very clean and nice. Whoever lives there take care of it very well. Nara start to walk around the house to check it out.

After a while Nara come out of the house and she start to walk back to the main trail to go home.

Suddenly she hears a CLICK! Nara froze there and don’t want to turn back. She can sense the bad energy.

Nara panic and decided to run back into the house. She closes the door fast and lock it making sure the bad spirit won’t come in.

She scoot back and suddenly bump into someone’s legs. She slowly turn her head around.

She sees a man. A handsome and tall man with fair skin and black hair. He’s wearing

a men kimono.

Nara is shock seeing someone like this living here. She thought an old person would live here. She look at him unbelievable.

“What are you doing here?” The man said.

Nara lower her head.

“I-I got chased by a bad spirit.” Nara said.

“I see that. There’s a barrier here so no one can see the house and it also protects the house.”The man said. Nara look up quickly to look at him confusedly.

“W—what?!!” Nara said shocked. She look at him still confused. She don’t understand what is going on. She wonder why and how she can see and enter the house.

She lower her head down again.

“I have to go,” Nara said. Nara turn to leave.

“I’ll send you back,” the man said. Nara nod her head.

They stay quiet and walk all the way back to where Nara comes from. Nara sees her grandparents and run to them.

“Grandmother and grandfather...he walk me here,”Nara said pointing behind her. Her grandparents look and no one is there.

“There’s no one there Nara,” her grandmother said. Nara look back and no one is there. She is confused.

“He was just here, where did he go?”

Nara said.

Her grandparents look at her confusedly.

“Nara, let’s go home. It’s getting dark,” her grandfather said. Nara look back again if she can see him again but no. She turn back and they walk home.

Next day comes and Nara still wonder about him. She want to go back and see if the house is still there.

But she know her grandparents won’t let her go. Then she come up with an idea to leave without them knowing she’s going back.

Nara went to tell her grandparents that she will be visiting her friend at her house and she will be back in the evening. They agree with it.

Nara go all the way where the house is. She slowly open the door and close it quietly. She turn around and bump into the man again.

“Why are you here?” The man said bluntly.

Nara look side to side don’t know what to say.

“I—I...”Nara thinking what to say.

“If you have no business here then go back. I don’t like people bothering me.” The man said.

“I’m just confused. What are you?”Nara ask confusedly. The man look at Nara with no emotion.

“My name is Kin and I’m a spirit. I been living here for years. How can you see me? Kin ask.

“My mom said I’m a special child. I can see things that people can’t see.” Nara told Kin.

“That’s weird. Not many people are like you. You should leave,” Kin said bluntly.

“I—I find it peaceful here. Can I come visit you everyday here.?” Nara ask.

“You can’t.” Kin said.

“Why?” Nara ask. Kin just look at Nara.

“It’s not safe here.” Kin said. Nara walk away from Kin and start walking around the house and Kin follow Nara.

“I like it here.” Nara said. Nara and Kin stop walking and Nara turn to face Kin.

“Do whatever you want but if you’re in trouble I’ll not help you.” Kin said. Nara chuckle. Kin look at Nara weirdly why Nara is chuckling.

“I’ll be fine. I don’t need your help.” Nara said smiling.

Kin turn away to go sit and Nara follow along. They start talking and enjoying themselves.

Nara told Kin about her parents and how she end up with her grandparents. Kin didn’t tell Nara too much about him.

They talk for the whole day and Kin even cook for Nara. She is enjoying his accompany.

Nara never feel this way before. She start to like him a lot but she know he don’t feel the same way.

“I have to go now.” Nara said.

“Alright go home safely.” Kin said.

Nara stand up and walk to the door. Nara turn to look at Kin again.

“I have fun talking to you. You are very likable.” Nara said smiling at him. Nara notice that Kin is blushing.

“I’ll send you to the end of the trail.” Kin said. Nara nod.

After that day, Nara go visit Kin almost every single day. They talk and try out each other’s activities. They build a very strong connection as the summer go through.

This is the happiest moment of Nara’s life. She learned a lot from Kin. At this point she notice that she love Kin. She want to be with Kin everyday.

But Nara still don’t know how Kin feel about her. Nara plan to tell Kin the next time she go see him.

She lie to her grandparents every time she go see Kin. Nara know if she tell her grandparents, they won’t ever let her go.

Nara can’t just let that separate them.

“Kin, let’s go hike.” Nara said.

“Hike?” Kin ask?

“Yes, it’s very fun! I bet you’ll love the fresh air at the top of the mountain.” Also the view is very beautiful.” Nara said trying to convince Kin to go.

“Fine.” Kin said. Nara went to hug Kin tightly.

They walk all the way up to the very top of the mountain. They enjoy the view and feel the fresh air.

“Kin, I want to tell you something.” Nara said.

“What.” Kim said making eye contact with Nara.

“I-I like you.” Nara said nervously that she can’t even look at Kin. Kin eyes widen.

“Ever since I met you, you made my life so much more happier. I enjoy every moment I spent with you so far. I want you to know that you are my life saver. Thank you for accepting me.” Nara said still looking down.

Kin come closer to Nara and lift her head up. Kin makes eye contact with Nara.

Kin pull Nara in for a hug.

“I love you Nara. I also enjoy every moment I had spent with you.” Kin said. Nara look at Kin and then hug him again.

Kin lift Nara chin up so her face will be

closer to his and then kiss Nara.

After confessing, Kin walk Nara all the way back home.

It’s toward the end of the summer and Nara can’t go out no more because it’s getting cold. Her third year of high school is starting too.

“Nara...we need to talk.” Nara’s grandmother said. Her grandmother sit next to Nara on the porch.

“What do you need to say grandmother?” Nara said.

“We know you were lying to us. You friend come around here and we don’t see you with her. She told us you never go to her house.” Nara’s grandmother said. Nara only look down.

“From now on, you can’t go out. You need to focus on school and it’s not safe to go out so much. You have to listen to us, okay Nara?” Nara’s grandmother told her.

Nara couldn’t tell her grandmother the truth so she just nod as she agree to her.

A week has passed since visiting Kin. School has started and Nara can’t go see Kin as much.

It’s finally the weekend and Nara is excited to go see Kin. She secretly leave the house at noon when her grandparents go out to buy food.

“Kin! I’m here!” Nara yell. Nara notice it’s so quiet and no one is there at all.

“Kin? Kin!” Nara keep yelling trying to find him.

After a while, Nara go lay down on his bed and take a nap waiting for Kin to come back.

After some time Nara is waken up by Kin softly shaking her. Nara slowly opens her eyes seeing Kin sitting next to her.

“Where did you go Kin?” Nara ask.

“I have some business to go to.” Kin said.

Nara notice Kin look kind of sad. Nara go to hug Kin.

“My grandparents found out so I can’t come see you as much.” Nara said sadly. Kin take her hands and hold it between his.

“It’s okay, I’ll wait.” Kin said smiling at Nara. Nara smile back.

They stay with each other for the whole day.

It’s almost nightfall and Nara is leaving. Half way the route she sense a strong bad spirit. Nara start to panic and start to run towards home.

Nara run and run and then trip over a tree root and fall to the ground. She try to get up but something seem to be holding her down.

“YOU CAN’T ESCAPE FROM ME THIS TIME!” The bad spirit said as it’s coming closer.

“KIN!!!”Nara yell! Nara can see the spirit reaching to grab her by the neck.

*BOOM*

Kin has arrive and cut of the spirit’s arm.

“Nara! Run back to the house!” Kin yell at Nara. She quickly get up and run back to the house.

Nara waited and waited for Kin to come. Nara is worried that Kin has been hurt. She can’t wait anymore and about to open the door to go find Kin.

The door suddenly open and Kin fall right into Nara’s arms. Kin is cover in blood.

Nara take Kin to his bed.

“Kin, Kin! Are you okay?” Nara ask worriedly. No answer from Kin but blood just keep drip off his body.

Nara quickly go get a towel to wipe his blood away. Kin suddenly stop Nara from doing so.

“Kin, Kin! Are you okay?” Nara ask as tears fill her eyes.

“Nara, I promise to myself that I’ll protect you with my life.” Kin said. Kin’s hand slowly go wipe Nara’s tears away.

“No, Kin! Don’t say that. Don’t leave me!” Nara said as tears falling down like a waterfall.

*BOOM**BOOM* Thunder hits and it start raining.

“Nara, Remember that you’ll always be in my heart. I love you...” Kin barely saying the full sentence.

“I love you Kin.” Nara said hugging him tightly in her arms while crying harder.

Kim’s hand slower drop to the floor and then stop breathing.

“Kin?!! KIN WAKE UP!!! Don’t leave me alone. Take me with you too! Nara said shaking Kin and crying harder.

Nara see no movement in Kin at all. She know that Kin has left her. She feel her heart break into pieces and her happiness is now gone.

Suddenly Kin’s body start breaking into butterflies disappearing away in the air.

All was left is Kim’s clothes in Nara’s arms.

Nara cry until she fall asleep.

Nara wake up the next morning feeling empty. She wash his clothes and folded to put it away. She clean the house after that.

After that day, Nara would come every weekend to take care of the house for the rest of the year.

A year later and summer comes again. Nara planted Kim’s favorite flowers around the house. She spend a lot of time at Kin’s house and wishing for him to come back.

One day Nara decided to go hike and go to the very top of the mountain. She gets there and tears start to fall from her eyes.

Nara can’t hold in her tears as this is the place they confessed their love for each other.

She wipe her tears away and walk toward the edge of the mountain.

“KIN! YOU’LL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART! I’LL WAIT FOR YOU!!! Nara yell as loud as she can. She was out of breath after yelling that loud.

She catch her breath and turn to walk back to the house. Nara is walking looking down to the ground.

Nara reached the house and look up into the beautiful blue sky.

“Nara.” Someone said.

Nara look straight at where the voice is coming from. She sees Kin standing in the porch smiling at her and opening his arms ready to hug Nara.

Tears form in Nara’s eyes but she smile at Kin and start walking towards him.
