I squated down and glanced at my reflection in the lake. The lake was glittering in the callow light of dawn. The hollowness of valley magnified all sounds, from the light fluttering of the wings of butterflies to the sound of water dripping down the edge of the mountain. The water was glided with moonlight-pale lilies. The soft aromatic smell of flowers drifted in the air as the wind blew by. The leaves on the trees rustled.
Then, it came. The most majestic creature I've seen. Ripples were formed around it as it slowly came towards me. Its silky skin reflected the dim glow of moonlight. I stretched out my hand and smiled.
It gently nudged me with its head, I couldn't help but feel at ease. I gazed into its eyes and it looked back at me. Those emerald green eyes sparkled. They were mysterious yet, beautiful. This mystical creature gave me hope. It gave me joy. It gave me a reason to live.
I was always bullied since young, mainly because I was an orphan. I lived in the country-side and those living in the cities, despised me. They looked down on me. They thought that I would bring them so called "bad luck". They called me names, they made fun of me, they made me run errands for them. But never did they once say, "Thank you." I didn't like it. I didn't like it at all. I wanted to escape, I didn't want to be controlled by them. I wanted freedom. I prayed every single day for them to stop, for them to realise how wrong it was to bully someone. I prayed and prayed. Every night, I'll cry, hoping that it'll be fine the next day. But it never was. Despite my desperate pleading, the bullying didn't stop. I couldn't take it anymore. I wanted to scream, I wanted to ask for help. But no one ever heard my cries. I was an outcast.
It was that particular morning I awoke from my slumber. Dawn broke and the water shimmered under the sunlight. It's just another day, I thought. I brushed my teeth, packed my bag and trudged down the muddy path, towards my school. I didn't want to go. I really didn't want to. It was then, I heard a faint whimpering sound. I turned around and there before me, was the most majestic creature I've ever seen. The moment I lay my eyes upon it, I fell in love with it. It seemed to give off a special, comforting aura. I've never felt like this before. I couldn't explain this feeling.
Ever since then, it will come every morning and I will be there waiting for it. It gave me hope, strength, comfort, and the will to live on. We shared a special connection, as if it understood me, as if it understood my pain. I would share my troubles with it and it'll listen to me. It makes me laugh, it makes me forget about everything else. The bullying I received didn't matter much to me anymore. Because at the end of the day, I'll be just fine. I know I'll be.
