The wind hears stories from all over the world. It listens to people’s cries, and their wishes. Yet, it passes by pretending it heard nothing. Humans are different. They can’t pretend when they heard or seen something. It will eventually affect them in some way.
In this series of short stories, I will write about different emotions felt by people. This is the first story, I hope you enjoy!
Story 1: The Girl whose Smile Brightened my world
I remember the first time I saw her. It felt strange. I was somehow affected by her actions and words. That day I was kicked out of my class for being late. I was never late before, yet I was given a harsh punishment. As I looked out of the window, I saw an unfamiliar face. I saw a girl who was walking around the school grounds. It took me a while to catch a good glimpse at her face. After a while a group of girls walked up to her, and showed her the pictures they took. Ah, she was taking photos, no wonder. A while later she was introduced in front of our class.
I felt warm looking at her, her smile seemed to light up the classroom. I will be honest, I’m not even near being popular, I was just a normal boy, with no big dreams, or you can say I never looked forward to tomorrow.
After I saw her that day, I seemed to look forward to coming to school every day. School didn’t seem that boring anymore. The next day I came to class early, hoping that I can see her again. But… I was greeted with memories that I will never forget.
Rain was pouring when I reached school that day, but my mind drifted off to a warmer place. I was excited, hoping I would get to see her smile again.
The rain still didn’t stop as I exited through the school’s back entrance since it was a closer route. That’s when I saw her. She stood there drenched in the rain, silently crying. The rain washed the tears off her cheek as they become one with the rain drops. Her warm smile disappeared, as the rain sound faded in the background.
And that was the last time I saw her. Only regrets remain till this day. What if I talked to her? What if I didn’t leave immediately after giving her my umbrella?
Her smile lifted me up when I was at my lowest. I was a coward and couldn’t do the same. And that’s how my first love ended.
