It begins with dust, suffocating every surface. And then there are statues, magnificent stone statues that look as if they were carved from soft grey silk, their excellent condition due to their waxed, polished, and bleached features; the soft, warm touch of flushed skin traded for the deathly cold feel of aged marble. Who knows if this resembles their living state, if the stories told to the children of today could be in any way similar to those told to the children, who embraced the same lifestyle of the heroes and lived closer to their prime age? Diana is a goddess, she is worshipped, she is respected, a graceful spirit that is looked to for guidance.
Correction: she was.
Her history is on a placard, undervalued, compacted into a brief, dull paragraph, it is overlooked by most wanderers of the museum; they believe there is no time for dwelling on the stories of those that cannot be confirmed, perhaps dead, perhaps never living, perhaps a character moulded by one who has met someone remarkable. Now, with shallow and sunken gaps where the wonderful iris of her pupil used to sit, not even her magnificent, all knowing eyes may breathe her story onto next generations. She was queen of everything she knew best; creatures, hunting, the spirit of the wilderness and now she was demoted to this, to be an eternal representation of the wonderful hero she used to be.
It was one night in that immense building that the second act of her myth begins. She wondered, how out of all of the gods and goddesses she had known-those of such magnificent power who could control and understand things no other could begin to comprehend- that she was one remembered and recreated, perhaps not the best, but one that had left an indentation on the minds of a few, who had gone on to convey the spirit and story of her onto others through the years. It was flattering and almost empowering to herself that she had left a bigger legacy than that of her fellows- and yet, it did not seem fair that theirs would not be heard of. It reminded her of the animal kingdom, the food chain is unavoidably brutal however it is peaceful and in harmony, she and the other gods may be of different natures but all of them serve their part.
And so that night, Diana decided to create something that no one else apart from her had the knowledge to produce. With the very marble she had been skilfully carved from, she used part of herself and put it towards creating statues of all of the other gods and goddesses that deserved a place beside her. And that is why, the most famous are not necessarily the most important but, those that leave a positive impact on the life of others, as they are usually the reason for the creation of those famously known.
