I'm Tessa Fleming. A high schooler, fifteen years old, grade ten. I have a fair complexion, hour glass body, I do look fine but I don't have a boyfriend. I'm not exactly comfortable around guys. Maybe it's because of my dad running out in mom and me when I was born.
Why did he run away?
Because he wanted a son and my mom gave birth to a daughter. She was still too young when she conceived me, about eighteen years old. Which makes her thirty three on this date.
For a thirty three year old woman, my mom has quite the looks. Raising a girl child all alone, I love my mom and I want her to be happy in life. Move on, get a man who cherish and supports her like Daniel Decousta.
Daniel is a thirty five year old dentist and a divorcee. My mom and him were in a relationship from a year until a couple of months ago when they had a huge fight and broke up. I loved Daniel, he treated me like his daughter too, but It's okay if mom's happy.
That's some shit about my life at home, now I had a completely different life at school and ever since we graduated grade nine, girls are talking way too many of boys.
About boys...
I may have said a lie back in grade nine to my girls that I have a boyfriend just to become popular. Having a boyfriend was considered cool at school and my boyfriend was everything a girl want her man to be. He's tall, fair, handsome. He's muscular, plays guitar and football. He's in college and spends way too many hours sweating it out in gym.
Only the fact that this boyfriend I had was my imagination. A lie that I spinned to remain the queen bee of St. Jude's.
"I heard about your boyfriend Tessa. Is it a real man or you're just making things up because the guy you said was your boyfriend is actually a small town model making c-grade ad films." Al said it right in my face coming upto me with proper news cuttings as evidence.
I was busted. I knew it would happen, I just didn't hope for it to be so soon.
"Em- I..." I didn't know what to say so I just stuttered.
She didn't wait for me to speak up. She just turned to adress everybody in class and announced the truth about my lie and proved me a liar.
It didn't take longer than a couple of days fir me being a liar to spread like fire in the entire school. Entire school knew how I lied about having a boyfriend and called me names. The bullying I received afterwards was unbearable for me.
I started skipping school. That was the only I saw myself coming out of the situation I was stuck in right now, until I met him. Vincenzo Martinez.
A new guy moved next door. He was thirty five and was exactly the way I described my boyfriend to my ex-friends at school. Tall, fair, handsome, rich, muscular, guitarist, football player and also sweating it out in gym.
The only drawback about him was that he was interested in my mom. So, he was a probable step dad to me.
I was happy for my mom, I had no regrets for Vincenzo and my mom it's just my school pals, whose bullying kept increasing constantly as time passed.
I couldn't find a way to deal with the mess that I had created back at school and telling mom the truth and asking her change my school seemed like such a bad idea.
But then, one day, around two months later the day my lie busted out in open, Vincenzo visited home early in that morning before I was heading out to school and offered to drop me off in his way.
He drove me to the gates and waited for me to get in. I was reluctant to go but what could I even do? With heavy heart I walked into the campus and planned as soon as Vincenzo would drive off, I'll run away from the school either. But my luck was at it's worst. I was caught off-guard with none other than Al, who was the reason why I started all of this.
Accidentally, she had seen the man I came in with and started asking me questions like "Who was that guy? Your brother? He seems really really hot."
I couldn't say he was my mother's boyfriend because that would make me a daughter who cannot get a boyfriend but her mother can. I just didn't want to hear any of that.
"No one." I said and started walking with my head down towards my class. The entire way she started following me around and kept talking about how gorgeous Vincenzo was and how she could never think of me even being around guys as hot as he was.
Finally, when I had enough of her taunting me I told her a lie, AGAIN.
"He's Vincenzo Martinez. My boyfriend."
Right when I said that, things changed. I suddenly became this hot girl with a boyfriend way more hotter. Girls started surrounding me, talking boys with me, the attention I started to get at school was indescribable.
It continued for a couple of months more. I was happy with the lie I told at school. I would ask Vincenzo to drop me at school more often so people could LOOK and think that he really WAS my boyfriend. It was all going great. Neither did mom, nor did Vincenzo had any idea how the entire school knew that Vincenzo Martinez was MY boyfriend.
Things were fine after that, and that's how I passed my grade ten.
