Sometimes life is strange, you won't even realise how things turn out to be, emotions carrying fear, sadness, anger.
It was around the time of midsummer, the skies were crystal clear and I could hear the birds chirping melodiously. Suddenly, someone knocks at the door.
“I’ll be there in a minute, Mom.” I said.
I kept my novel aside, quickly changed my clothes into something newfangled, a yellow tank top and brown cargo pants, and arrived at my living room. A brief moment of peace and quietness was hiding in my living room.
“Ready?” Mom asked.
“Yeah mom.” I said softly.
We left in our car and I gazed out the window, deep in thoughts. The thought that I am going for a therapy gave me a relief. “Will I be okay?” I sighed.
“Start taking chances.” Mom said, glancing at me.
I was sure, she was worried for me. I didn’t look at her, I knew she would see the veiled mix of anger and fear that came when a situation turned in a way differently from what she had imagined it to be. We reached the place, I got out of the car, mom quickly grabbed my hand and said “You’ll be fine” I nodded. I walked inside and sat down in the waiting room.
“You can go inside” the receptionist said. I nodded and entered the cabin anxiously. Therapist greeted me with a sweet smile.
“How are you? Gwen.” She said as she made hand gestures at me signaling me to sit down. “I’m okay” I said looking away.
Her blue eyes stared at me. “Let’s hear your story.”
I knew I had to open up to uncover my deepest fears one day. I started narrating. “I was coming back from a trip, I had three friends with me in my car. It was about 11 pm. On the way, I dropped two of my friends to their destination and then me and my friend were heading towards her place. However, when we took a turn, we found ourselves in an empty road. Suddenly, a man in the middle of the road, asked for a lift claiming that he had an accident. He looked shabby and bewildered. Somehow, his eyes looked dead. We took pity and decided to help him right away. He sat on the back seat. On the way, he shared some memories of his family and explained how he once stumbled upon his father in a bar. We were laughing. After few moments, we became silent. We were tired. On reaching the spot, “Here we are Sir!” I exclaimed. There was no response. I turned around thinking maybe he fell asleep and to my shock, there was no one. A chill went down our spines. My friend was horrified. We looked around and found no traces of him. He disappeared into the void. We both are having nightmares since then. And, nobody believed us.”
“I believe you” she said softly.
"ah thank-"
“Last year, my husband died in a road accident, I’ve been hearing this story since then.”
There was a brief moment of silence.
