The sound of his bellowing filled with pain, the air whirling around, a hurricane of sound, the noise of his cries went dead and silent.
The space in the room seemed to darken, the shadows around the wall to thicken. The temperature dropped suddenly, and the space seemed invaded by some invisible, malevolent presence.
It was as if some unseen, malignant force was seeping in through the walls, through the brick and mortar, through the floor.
The smell of decay was suddenly overpowering.
And then, in the middle of the room, I saw something weird: some sort of swirling cloud, or a pool of dust that seemed to be heaving and undulating, as it had a life of its own.
The shape of some sort of creature. I could see eyes, a nose, a mouth...
but there was something horribly, inhumanly wrong with that face. The face was twisted, distorted, as if had been melted and then frozen, as if it was made of wax that had been melted and then suddenly frozen.
It was coming towards me.
I couldn't move.
At first I thought it was a paralysis caused by fear, but the more I tried to move, the more I couldn't. It was as if an invisible force were holyme back, making me unable to move.
I could hear the crackling sound of those flames, hear the screaming, hear the awful moaning sounds that had filled the air, that filled my head.
I turned around and I saw a face staring into mine.
"Get out of here, kid," I heard him say.
"Don't look back, and don't look at it. Just get out of here, now."
And then I felt cold hand touch my shoulder.
Blinded by panic, I ran out of room, slamming the door shut behind me, not even thinking of what I had just seen, not wondering, not caring.
I was running like crazy, not even knowing where I was running to, only knowing that I had to get away.
I ran with full speed out of the house
