Kim had been staring at the boy too long that she felt her cheeks flush before she sped to take her seat in the desk opposite him.
A part of her was glad that he didn't caught her in the act, his head against his arm as he lay fast asleep on the desk. All she could make out was the ruby red of his hair.
Although, how he dared to fall asleep during class was a mystery. Maybe he was one of those people that just found classes boring? She couldn't blame him though. Sometimes it was the case for her as well. But unlike him, she couldn't afford to be careless and get away with sleeping. There was a pang in her heart and she concluded it as envy.
Five minutes into class and the teacher excuses himself while assigning them to work on the math question on the board. Everyone waits for him to be down the hall before they disregard it and begin talking amongst themselves. Some girls make an effort to touch up their make ups and gossip, while the boys talk about who knows what.
The classroom soon turns into an echo of voices that seems to stir someone awake. From the corner of her eye, she sees him lift his head and scan the area with disapproval. It's then his head shifts towards her direction and she can't help but meet his gaze. Midnight eyes clash with muddy brown ones.
The boy stares at her for a while, before simply saying, "who are you?"
End of snippet. This is the male and female leads first encounter.
