I’m lying in a bed in the ICU, wondering if there’s ever a chance to be outside again.
“ Sorry we have done our best.” Dr. Ko is talking to Chris.
“ Is there no other way?” Chris asked in shivering. The doctor shakes his head, then slowly walks away and says nothing else.
Chris tries to hold his tears and returns back to my room. He sits next to me and holds my hand.
“ Chris… can I go out tomorrow?” I asked. He used to say no or change another topic for the conversation. But this time, he nodded and kissed my head. I can feel the water that starts to drip on me is from his eyes.
The next day,
Chris takes me to every place we had gone before I got diagnosed with family genetic diseases. Until the night, he took me to the rooftop of a building. There is a big heart-shaped with candles. The wall has all the pictures we took together. I started to cry, and Chris cuddled her face in his hands, using his thumb to wipe her tears.
“ It will hurt me to see you cry like this.” then he brings his lip to hers.
We were sitting on the roof for the view.
“ Chris,” I suddenly said. He looked at what I had to say next.
“ Please take care of my dad for me.”
Chris only shakes his head, “ I will never give up on you, Elsa.” I have then smiled and laid my head on his shoulder,
“ Don’t stay up late so much,”
“ Elsa…”
“ Don’t skip your meals; your stomach is already in critical condition,”
“......”
“ Make sure my dad attend his appointment for medical,”
“ STOP! Elsa! Please....” Chris is now starting to cry. Tears start to come out of my eyes too.
“ I don’t want to lose you…” Chris’s voice is shaking. I put my hand to his heart.
“ You won’t lose me, and I will always be with you.” Both of us hold each other tightly.
“ I love you, Elsa.”
“ I love you too, Chris.” They kissed once again.
It is the last day of my life—also, our 5th anniversary.
