“You’re here?”
The door closed.
The woman smiled.
“I wasn’t expecting you to come today. It seems you are not satisfied with the way things are going.”
“Don’t speak like you know me, princess.”
“Oh? I must be right. Your face looks drained of energy. The new queen is not to your liking is she? I cannot blame you. Not every woman is as kind and loving as me.”
“Loving? You call this love?”
The princess got up from her chair.
She was the the centerpiece in this room.
No candle. No mirrors. No bed.
Only this wooden chair was her throne.
Cobwebs hung in the dark recess of the ceiling.
Only the window at the back of the room with long dark drapes kept the light from coming inside.
A single ray made its way through and the simmering dress of the princess immediately dazzled to the warm light.
She approached him, fearlessly.
Clear, blue eyes like the reflection of water gazed into him.
The princess stopped right in front of him and spoke softly.
“Love comes in different forms. Some beautiful and others not pure. After meeting the people of the world I can tell you are unsatisfied, why else would open the forbidden door to my bedroom?”
The princess smiled coldly and tilted her head.
“You should have left me alone in this tower, but here we are…”
She reached to touch him, but he averted his eyes and turned away.
Retracting her hand, the princess’s smile faded.
She went back to her seat.
“You have nothing to gain by denying me your heart, my king. And besides… One day I will possess it… you will give it to me as easily as your breath leaves your body. Your longing will be over and I will have something far more beautiful than flowers… far more beautiful.”
The king could feel his heart beating at every word.
The room went cold and he began to sweat.
The sun began to set and he knew her time was over for today.
He looked up to see her fading as the sunlight dimmed.
The princess that only revealed herself in daylight.
Prisoner to a sorcerer said to be smitten with her wild beauty.
Some say the princess was a witch in disguise and rumored to lure men to their death with her wicked beauty.
Could she be trusted?
The king felt a sudden pain in his chest.
A burning pain, like a needle sticking directly to his core.
Smiling, the princess turned to dust, but her voice echoed in her absence.
“I’ll be waiting.”
