If I remember correctly… princess Luna had a bright personality. She was known for her silliness but despite all that… She was beautiful. Like a fragile moon. Her name did suit her, “Luna” the name that associates with the moon. I like the moon, it’s beautiful. But I like her not just because she’s beautiful.
She often makes jokes, tricks me, helps me but I was always stern cold. Who would have the heart to be with this precious princess? I… I cannot be with her. I’m just a mere knight who is supposed to protect her. I cannot let my feelings be a hindrance.
My name is Gilliard. Princess Luna's appointed knight who swore loyalty to her at her debut. I was at her side since I was a kid.
Princess Luna had always been mischievous that everyone disliked her but… I always saw her as a precious person. Was it because of my undying loyalty? No, it was because of my selfish feelings.
“Gilliard, Are you alright? You seem sick…” Princess Luna said with her soft gentle voice as she approached me. She was wearing a long torn blue dress. Obviously, It was a noble lady who did torn it.
My green eyes glowed as I looked at her. I’m ridiculed as “grass” because everything I have is green. My hair, my eyes, my clothes, my sword. It was all because of Princess Luna who had told me she loved green.
I shook my head as I told her not to worry as I’m fine. She sighed as she smiled as silly as usual as she returned to bed. For a moment, no, she was always like this. She seemed not princess at all. Carrying all the responsibilities as the oldest princess, she may look bright but she is troubled by those responsibilities. She is supposed to be having a free life but everything was suddenly passed onto her when her brother died. She untied her hair and already went to sleep. I stopped as I thought she wouldn’t say the line she used too. I just turned preparing to leave the room and guard outside but…
“Goodnight, Gilliard!” Princess Luna exclaimed as she laughed happily and covered herself with a blanket. She looked red even though it wasn’t that hot. I chuckled as I closed the door and held my chest feeling that it had been beating faster than ever.
There were no nights when she hadn’t greeted me that. I feel amazingly… happy.
The princess’ blue eyes and blue hair was just like the moon. The moon I loved the most. The moon that had saved me from everything. My life, my love. I’m so silly for having falling in love for someone out of my reach. She is someone I shouldn’t be with. It will just destroy her if she ever finds out. So… I have to keep all this to myself.
The next morning…
“Good morning… Gill-.. iard” The princess said as she stretched her hands and wiped her eyes as she looked at me and smiled. I smiled in return and it suddenly vanished out of a sudden.
The princess stood up and called for the maids and hurriedly prepared to get dressed. As I looked at her outfit, I was surprised. Dark red dress that I had never saw her wear, and dark earrings. It seems… the princess has something up her sleeves. She will cause trouble for sure.
The princess stopped as she looked at me. She looked red so I thought it was hot but it isn’t. I just smiled at her as I escorted her to the carriage.
“Knight… could you come to the room later?” Princess Luna asked as she smiled innocently. Though there are some tint of mystery in her smile. Was she hiding something? I just nodded willing to take everything for her.
As the moon rose and the evening began… I went straight ahead to the Princess’ room finding her holding a rose. I looked at the beautiful image as she looked outside the window staring at the huge moon.
“Knight… have you every wondered why the moon was so big?” Princess Luna asked as she looked bitter sitting at her bed.
I didn’t say anything as I remained silent thinking she feels strange. But knowing her personality, I should answer her. “I always did, your Highness” I said as I smiled.
Princess Luna smiled in return and started to speak. “the moon was huge so that people can get the light they need. Because every one of us needs light to keep on living. But if the moon disappears, I probably wouldn’t want to live anymore so that’s why… I have to protect my light.” Princess Luna said as she started to tear. I was dazed looking at her thinking she might be talking about a lover. I even thought she I have the rights to intervene.
“Do you know why I always say goodnight to you?” Princess Luna asked as she turned to me with blood on her arms. I shuddered as I looked at her. I walked slowly to her with my feet trembling.
I don’t want to lose my light.
“It's because… I’m always afraid of losing my light and that maybe the next day, I would lose you without even saying farewell” She said as she smiled as I suddenly stumbled and fell to the ground. I felt feet above me and a long blue hair with a mask. She was no doubt… Snow Fox.
I looked up and saw Princess Luna shaking in fear and crying as she looked at me. She was full of blood and she still smiled. “I… Called you here… because…I don’t wanna go without saying goodbye” She said struggling to speak as she vomited blood. I heard the sinister laugh of Snow Fox as her footsteps became louder and louder. I felt an ominous feeling and I felt I had to do something. She drew out her daggers and pointed it at the princess. I stood as I tried to save her but it seems… i'm too late.
“Goodbye, Goodnight, my lovely Gilliard” She said as I slowly lost her.
I stood there shaking as I saw her corpse full of blood and there stood Snow Fox laughing maniacally as she continued to stab her. I… I’m so weak. Even so, I have to protect her.
