“Don’t come any closer!”
Mira seen how desperate he was and immediately froze.
“J-just stay back and don’t move.”
The arrow went deeper into his chest.
Calvin began coughing blood.
Stepping forward, Mira spoke quickly.
“I am going to pull out the arrow. If I don’t then you will die.”
“You can’t touch it! It will burn you.”
Mira grabbed it and began tugging. Her hands were singed at the lightest touch.
“Get out of here Mira… save yourself.”
Mira went stiff.
Calvin watched as she ripped the end of her dress and began wrapping it around her hands.
“Don’t… do it.” He said.
She narrowed her eyes and this time grabbed the arrow firmly.
Tears welled in her eyes as she tugged with all her might.
Calvin felt the arrow slowly begin to move away.
He wished that Mira would stop. She was gritting her teeth and trembling.
With a final tug, Mira managed to pull out the arrow.
She immediately covered his would and began treating it with her trembling hands.
Exhausted, Calvin began laughing.
“Mira… you’ve ruined your hands.”
“…”
She was quiet as she worked to save his life.
His eyes were glassy and his voice was weak.
“You can’t help me. The arrow went too deep into my body.”
Mira attempted to stop the bleeding, but still the blood soaked through all her bandages.
Tears fell from her eyes.
“You cannot cry, not now.” He said sternly, “smile for me.”
Mira looked at him with pain.
“You…” Mira couldn’t speak.
Her heart was too heavy.
Calvin squeezed her wrist.
“Don’t cry… I am happy. You should know I… always wanted you…”
Mira kept pressing his wound firmly and leaned down to kiss him softly.
He kept whispering her name and asking for more.
Soon his voice faded and Mira closed her eyes and silently prayed.
She could no longer hear his heart beat or his breath.
The blood was running cold.
Resting in the presence of a beloved friend, Mira felt a great sense of peace after giving Calvin her heart before he died.
Footsteps approached.
“Well now, it this not a pleasant scene? I warned you Mira. You cannot love anyone but me.”
A man loomed over her with a rather evil grin.
Mira opened her eyes and sat up slowly.
“You did it again Mira. His death is your fault. My arrow will kill the man you love before you can give him any earthly satisfaction… my dear, you are mine. Be grateful that a superior being looks onto you and cares for you!”
Mira flinched.
To be loved by a demon was a cruel fate.
It was her fate.
That dark demon neared her and Mira lifted her hand and painted her forehead red with blood of her beloved.
“Here lies the man who fell in love with me, his blood is my blood. To undo him, is to destroy me.”
Mira pressed her aching chest and she suddenly felt very empty.
“Mira… what have you done?!”
She was holding her heart and watching it beat slowly.
Smiling softly, she looked to the demon who wished to have her.
“My heart has been taken to the realm of death by the man you see lying here. Only he can have me. Even in death my beloved chooses to keep me safe from your clutches…”
Mira’s heart disappeared and she too lost her life.
The demon howled and began cursing.
He was mad. Unhinged.
“No, no! You shall not go, not yet Mira. I have ways to get you this I swear!”
The demon drew the arrow out and cut his hand.
“Listen well spirits, this foul blood is of the demon clan! This woman shall belong to me by the Moon’s end! Keep her away from me and I will rage against the souls of living and dead until I have her. She will belong to me and nothing will stop me!”
The black blood dripping from the demon was like acid.
He was bitter and refusing to let go of the human woman he was obsessed with.
Before long the moon revealed itself.
A green planet with gold dust surrounding it.
“Playing with a mortal woman again?”
“Shut up! Bring me the soul of this woman.”
A fairy with purple eyes smiled at the demon.
“No creature leaves death. It seems that you have been outwitted by this moral woman. She refused to be your plaything even if it cost her life.”
“Wrong. I will have her even in essence!”
The fairy widened her eyes. She then sighed.
“Fine. I will give you one chance to do your best to ensnare this woman… however, you have forgotten that she has given her heart to this man. Therefore he must live as well.”
The demon snarled.
“Fine. I will kill him before Mira can even know his name.”
The fairy cast out her dust and the world was changed.
Both Mira and Calvin were alive and the demon was heading to capture her and kill her beloved.
The fairy returned to her realm and sighed.
“By the moon’s end, the demon does not understand that even he is incapable of changing this fate… the moon’s end will be his undoing!”
