PATH TO FREEDOM
-A short story.
As i walked down my neighborhood,
I saw a young man jogging with a smile on his face.
He said "hello neighbour" as he jogged past me.
I said nothing and continued along the path.
As i walked down the street,
I saw a man, middle aged man, driving past me, i shouldn't have been able to notice, but i did, for he was driving ever so slowly.
He sighed, looked at me looking at him and said, "don't worry, it'll take some time, but I'll get there".
I had no idea where he meant. But i still understood, there was hope. But not for me.
As i ran up the hill, in a hurry to reach the top, as the sun was about to set.
I saw an old man, sitting near the small cottage just in the middle of the hill, not at the top, not at the start, just in between.
He seemed really old. Older than me. By a lot of decades. His eyes shined of wisdom and sadness, but still full of life. I was impressed by how he was still alive.
"Hello child", he said, looking at me, "i hope whatever you're about to do isn't what i think it is."
I ignored him. He seemed to know what i was about to do. He looked right through me. That annoyed me.
So i ignored him.
Unfortunately i saw his look of sadness, and that made me hesitate momentarily, but i soon overcame that hesistence and ran. Faster than before. Faster than ever.
I ran and ran and ran. And then i reached. The top. The view was breathtaking. Just before the sun could set.
I took a step forward. A step near the cliff. I stopped to look at the vast world before me just one last time.
I breathed the air around me, still huffing from the run.
"Your voice", i sang,"is like an echo~" a step closer to the cliff. "That i", a step closer, "can't hear", a step closer, "any-" a stone rolled over and i turned, "more".
I fell.
The wind felt amazing. I had a smile on my face, for the first time in a while. "Ha" i laughed.
*Thud*
I reached the ground. Not having enough time to complete the laugh.
Blood gushing from every part of my body.
I breathed my last breath and smiled my last laugh, as i slowly felt my life slipping away.
Finally I could leave this wretched place full of wretched people.
Finally I had attained my freedom.
-by me.
