Damion went directly to the thicket. He used his magic to find her footsteps.
They disappeared after a while. She must have expected him to follow.
With no leads on her whereabouts, Damion went to tracking her with nothing but his eyes.
Unfortunately, he walked right into quicksand and began to sink.
As he was sinking Damion thought he had lost his mind.
He was the most powerful demon in the land and a human woman had been the one to make him this insane.
He loved her.
Bitterly.
After meeting her in the forest and rescuing her from terrible danger a strange new feeling over took him.
For that reason, he kept the woman he loved caged in his castle.
Locked safely in a tower away from anything that would dare harm her.
A demon cursed never to find happiness was now afraid to lose this moment of hope.
It was the demon’s curse.
No demon could have love. Not ever.
Still… Damion hoped.
This human woman was beautiful. So much so, he found it difficult to do anything else besides think of her smile.
Before it took him, the demon thought he seen something watching him from the trees.
Marian.
The woman who the demon wanted.
She was watching silently as he was pulled deeper.
The cold eyes gave no hint to her mood.
He called to her and she gave no reply.
She slipped away and went into the shadows.
Struggling to get out, the demon forced every muscle to move against the force of nature.
He kept calling for her.
She was so far ahead of him.
Damion shouted her name.
“Don’t leave! Stay Marian.”
To this Marian froze. She turned around slowly and gave a smirk.
“I should have left ages ago. After tasting freedom I realize what I have been missing all this time. You will never give me what I want…”
Marian closed her eyes and leaned backwards.
A small smile at her lips.
It was thought she found peace.
Damion shouted and reached for her.
Too late.
Marian was falling into an abyss.
One with no definite end.
Damion dropped to his knees and knew he could not follow after her anymore.
She did not choose death.
Instead she decided to fall into an endless dreamlike state. She dreamed of walking through a meadow. The same meadow she had once walked before so many years ago…
