**The Case of the Vanishing Corpse**
Detective Roy was puzzled. He had been called to the scene of a murder, where a woman had been stabbed to death in her apartment. The police had secured the area and waited for him to arrive. But when he got there, he found no trace of the victim. The bloodstains on the floor and the knife on the couch were the only evidence that something had happened.
"Where is the body?" he asked the officer in charge.
"We don't know, sir. It was here when we first came, but then it disappeared."
"Disappeared? How is that possible?"
"We don't know, sir. We searched the whole building, but we couldn't find it. No one saw anyone leaving with it, either."
"Did you check the CCTV footage?"
"Yes, sir. There was no sign of the killer or the body. The only person who entered and left the apartment was the victim herself, about an hour before we got here."
"Are you sure it was her?"
"Yes, sir. We confirmed her identity with her landlord and her neighbors. She lived alone, and she didn't have any visitors."
"Then how did she end up dead?"
"We don't know, sir. It's a mystery."
Detective Roy rubbed his chin and looked around the room. He noticed a laptop on a desk, a bookshelf full of novels, and a framed photo of a smiling couple on the wall.
"Who is that in the picture?" he asked.
"That's her husband, sir. He died in a car accident two years ago."
"Did she have any enemies? Anyone who would want to harm her?"
"Not that we know of, sir. She was a quiet and friendly person, according to everyone who knew her. She worked as a librarian at the local library, and she didn't have any trouble with anyone."
Detective Roy frowned and walked over to the laptop. He opened it and saw that it was still on. He clicked on the browser icon and saw that the last website she had visited was an online forum for mystery lovers.
"What's this?" he asked.
"It looks like a website where people discuss and write stories about mysteries, sir."
"Interesting. Maybe she was a fan of this genre."
"Maybe, sir. But what does that have to do with her murder?"
"I don't know yet. But maybe there's a clue here somewhere."
Detective Roy scrolled through the posts and saw that the victim had been an active member of the forum. She had posted several comments and reviews on various stories, and she had also written some of her own.
He clicked on one of her stories and read the title: **The Case of the Vanishing Corpse**.
He felt a chill run down his spine as he read the first line:
*It was a perfect crime. No one would ever find out what I did.*
He continued reading and realized that the story was about a woman who had killed her husband and then hid his body in a secret compartment in their apartment. She had then faked his death by staging a car accident and collecting his insurance money.
He looked at the date of the story and saw that it was posted two years ago, around the same time as her husband's supposed death.
He looked at the photo on the wall again and felt a surge of horror.
He had found the missing body.
It was right in front of him all along.
He grabbed his phone and called for backup.
He had also found the killer.
It was her.
*The end*
