CHEERS ERUPTED AROUND us as we pushed through the crowd.
"What's happening?" I asked absentmindedly.
"Aria's going to propose to her crush today!" A junior beside us practically squealed.
Oh. No doubt the crowd.
I leave my friends to push my way into the center of the crowd. And there they stood, 'The Aria', in all her glory, and.... Alex. The two popular heartthrobs of the school. It wasn't a surprise many people wanted them to get together. She was all over him, anyways.
"Go, go, go!"
"Just tell him, Aria!"
"Stop grinning like an idiot and go for it!"
Their oh-so-inspiring words only made Aria more bashful. Aria was truly a beauty, it would be a sin to deny that. Both of them were unbelievably perfect, blessing the world with their existence.
I felt my legs begining to weaken as my vision darkened, yet the two figures remained in my sight, shining ever so brightly amongst the darkness as everything else disappeared.
I always knew I had no place in his life. He was perfect, and I was flawed in every way I could think of. He was the sun, and I was just a dull moon. I was a moth, and he was the flame, flame which shone brighter than a thousand suns, destroying everyone who went even barely near.
And yet, I embraced that destruction.
As I kept looking at him, the person beside him disappeared as well. And for a moment, we were the only ones in this world, staring at each other with a thousand unspoken words. He had glanced at me, with a gaze that lingered way too long before returning to his soon-to-be lover.
The God has found his Goddess.
I mustered up a tired smile, and when he hugged his Goddess tightly, I slowly started backing away. I took small steps, desperately clinging on to the hope that he would look back for the last time, and light a dim flame of hope inside me. He didn't.
My heart was broken, all hope was lost; and darkness engulfed my mind. I had no place in a God's world, and I never will. Happily ever afters were always for the perfect beings.
Farewell, my first love. My destruction.
