*The Time Machine*
Anya was a curious and adventurous girl who loved to read books about history and science. She always wondered what it would be like to travel back in time and see the past for herself. She wished she had a time machine that could take her anywhere she wanted.
One day, she found an old book in her attic that belonged to her grandfather. It was titled "The Secrets of Time Travel" and had a strange symbol on the cover. She opened it and saw that it was full of diagrams, equations, and instructions on how to build a time machine.
She was amazed and excited by the discovery. She decided to follow the book and try to make her time machine. She gathered some materials from her garage and basement, such as wires, batteries, magnets, clocks, and a metal box. She followed the steps carefully and connected everything according to the book.
She finished her project and looked at her creation. It was a small metal box with a screen, a keyboard, and a red button. She plugged it into an outlet and turned it on. The screen lit up and showed a message:
"Welcome to the Time Machine. Please enter your name, destination, and date."
Anya typed in her name, "Anya", and then thought about where and when she wanted to go. She decided to go to ancient Egypt and see the pyramids. She typed in "Egypt" and "2500 BC". She pressed the red button and waited.
Nothing happened.
She was disappointed and thought that maybe the book was a hoax or that she made a mistake somewhere. She checked the connections and tried again. Still nothing.
She sighed and decided to give up. She turned off the machine and unplugged it. She put it back in the box and carried it to her room. She thought about throwing it away but decided to keep it as a souvenir.
She went to bed and fell asleep.
The next morning, she woke up to a loud noise outside her window. She got up and looked out. She gasped in shock.
She saw a vast desert with dunes and palm trees. She saw camels and horses carrying people dressed in colorful robes. She saw a huge river with boats sailing on it. And she saw three gigantic pyramids rising from the horizon.
She realized that she was not in her home anymore. She was in ancient Egypt!
She ran to her closet and grabbed her backpack. She stuffed some clothes, water, snacks, and money in it. She also took the book and the machine with her.
She opened her door and stepped outside.
She was greeted by a hot sun and a dry wind. She felt nervous but also excited. She wanted to explore this new world and learn more about it.
She walked along the road and saw many people doing different things. Some were farming, some were trading, some were praying, some were building, some were writing, some were painting, some were dancing, some were singing.
She smiled and said hello to everyone she met. Some of them smiled back, some of them ignored her, some of them stared at her curiously.
She reached the river and saw a boat waiting for passengers. She paid the boatman some coins and got on board. He took her across the river to the other side.
She got off the boat and walked towards the pyramids. They were huge and impressive. She felt awe-struck by their beauty and mystery.
She reached the base of one of them and touched its surface. It was smooth and hard. She wondered how they built it without modern tools or machines.
She saw an entrance leading inside the pyramid. She decided to go in and see what was there.
She entered the dark tunnel and followed it deeper into the pyramid. She used her phone as a flashlight to see where she was going.
She reached a large chamber with a stone sarcophagus in the center. It was decorated with hieroglyphs and images of gods and goddesses.
She approached the sarcophagus and opened its lid.
Inside, she saw a mummy wrapped in linen bandages.
It was her grandfather!
He opened his eyes and looked at her.
He smiled and said:
"Hello, Anya."
