Minerva lives in a Barrio where there is a scarity of everything. The people there seem to be Deprived and the barrio is almost a forgotten place.
Every day, Minerva has to wake up at 4:00 a.m in order to reach the school on time. She has to walk for two to three hours because there are no other means of transportation in their barrio. The road to school is long, winding, and grassy. But no matter how difficult it is, She always holds on to her dream that these sacrifices will end once she graduates and finds a decent job. Whenever she wants to give up, she will always remember the words of her parents that the patience is the key to success. Because of this,She endures a lot. At lunch, she only eats a piece of sweet potato and drinks of a bottle of water. At night, she has to do her homework using a dim light that comes from a small candle.
One morning, while Minerva was walking to school, two American missionaries saw her and secretly followed minerva to the barrio.Their hearts were broken when they saw the house where minerva's family lived. The missionaries stayed with them for a while and ate dinner with them.
Minerva did not know that her patience would bear good fruit earlier than she expected. Few monthes before her graduation, a bus stopped near their school. The bus was full of americans missionaries. The students and the teachers were surprised to see the missionaries coming to their place. The teacher-in-charge motioned the children to greet the visitors as she welcomed them. The teacher also interviewed them.
The teacher learned that the missionaries were inspired to help them because of Minerva. The missionaries shared their plan to the teachers and asked for their corporation. They planned to improve the school and give scholarships grants to deserving students. They were also planning to deal with transportataion problems to help the students who needed to walk a long distance just to reach the school everyday.
Minerva burst into tears while thanking the Missionaries for giving credits to her utmost patience and perserverance.
