Finally.
After a whole year of waiting. It was finally that one day of the year which was all hers! You guessed it! Her 13th birthday. Bizarre as it was, she woke up early, for once in her life. Following the usual trend of her previous birthdays, she was highly excited for the present she knew should be waiting for her with her family downstairs. She shot down taking 3 steps at a time. Her parents always had the best presents. But, when she got down, she was bewildered by the fact that there was nothing there. Not even the lights were on, in fact, it seemed as though no one had come here since last night. Dazed, she trudged back upstairs to find her parents deep asleep in their room. She too decided to go back to sleep, perhaps it was just too early. Yet, when she woke up for the second time that day, no one nothing seemed different. Of course, she was highly disappointed at first but then she realised that this was exactly like every single cliché story, she was getting a surprise party. She made sure to stay out of the house all day to give her parents plenty of opportunities to prepare.
To her parents however, she had been acting strange all day long. Smiling without a reason, staying out of the house, humming… the birthday song? They’d even been bugged with phone calls all day, on their 1 day off work, they certainly would not be picking those up. It wasn’t until tea with a close family friend did, they realise that it was their daughter’s birthday. How could they have forgotten?! Their friend, laughing at their startled faces, offered them to use his yacht for a party. Their grateful smiles shone through as they nodded and immediately started inviting all their daughter’s friends and family. By the night they were exhausted but everyone was waiting, in the dark, on the yacht. As she walked unsuspectingly towards the boat they all jumped up and screamed “Happy Birthday!”
She did her best in acting surprised and rushed over to hug them.
The night was tremendous, they even had to face angry residents of the houses nearby for the extensive amount of noise. But, everyone had an incredible time.
A few hours in, she went to her parents and asked, “as amazing as this party is, my friends want me to open my gift. Where is it?”
They gulped and turned their stupefied faces slowly at each other.
“Gift?”
