🕯️ Title: “The Last Voice Note”
Writing
Rohit didn’t believe in ghosts.
Even when his friends warned him about the old hostel room… he laughed.
“Room 309 is empty for a reason,” they said.
“Perfect,” Rohit replied. “More space for me.”
The first night was normal.
The second night… wasn’t.
At 3:03 a.m., his phone recorded a voice note on its own.
When he woke up, he saw it.
Duration: 00:17 seconds
Confused, he pressed play.
At first… silence.
Then—
Heavy breathing.
Slow.
Uneven.
Rohit frowned. “Maybe a glitch.”
Then a whisper came.
So faint… yet so close.
“Why are you in my room?”
Rohit’s smile disappeared.
He checked the recording again.
It wasn’t his voice.
And he was alone.
That night, he locked the door.
Turned off the lights.
Tried to sleep.
3:03 a.m.
His phone vibrated again.
Another voice note.
Hands shaking, he played it.
This time—
A clearer sound.
Something dragging.
Across the floor.
Closer.
Closer.
Then—
Right next to the mic—
“I told you to leave.”
Rohit jumped up and switched on the lights.
The room was empty.
But the chair near his bed…
Had moved.
Slightly closer.
The next morning, he packed his bags.
He was leaving.
No arguments.
No bravery.
Just fear.
As he stepped out, the hostel caretaker stopped him.
“You stayed in 309?” he asked quietly.
Rohit nodded.
The man sighed.
“Strange things happen there… ever since a boy—”
He stopped.
Rohit felt cold.
“Since what?” he asked.
The caretaker looked at him.
“Since a boy recorded his last voice note in that room…”
Rohit’s heart dropped.
“…at exactly 3:03 a.m.”
That night, in his new room, far away…
Rohit’s phone buzzed.
One last voice note.
He didn’t open it.
He didn’t want to.
But the screen lit up on its own.
And the audio… started playing.
Heavy breathing.
Then a whisper.
Right behind him.
“You forgot something…”
Rohit slowly turned around.
And realized—
He never left Room 309.
