Chapter 27 : The London Dawn
The morning that followed the ambush at Wapping Pier brought a sky so clear it looked like polished glass. The oppressive fog that had choked the Thames for days had finally broken, leaving the historic architecture of London illuminated by a crisp, golden light.
Inside the master suite of the penthouse, the atmosphere was entirely changed. The heavy, suffocating weight of the Vance family secrets had lifted, replaced by a profound, absolute stillness.
Natalie stood on the private terrace, a long silk robe trailing behind her as she looked out over the city. A fresh breeze carried the scent of rain-washed stone and the distant hum of morning traffic. In her hand, she held the brass key she had taken from the pier the night before. It felt remarkably light for something that had carried the weight of a twenty-year war.
The glass doors slid open smoothly, and Sebastian stepped out onto the terrace. He wore a crisp white shirt, the cuffs rolled back to his forearms, a steaming cup of coffee in his hand. He looked entirely restored, the sharp lines of his jaw relaxed, his striking blue eyes carrying a calm, triumphant light.
"The federal transport arrived at the private airfield an hour ago," Sebastian said, his deep baritone grounding the quiet morning. He walked over to the stone railing, his towering frame stepping into her space, enveloping her in his familiar, commanding warmth. "Julian is officially en route to a maximum-security holding facility in New York. The automated filters have purged every mirror server he established in Antwerp."
Natalie turned her head to look up at him, a faint, elegant smile playing on her lips. "And the timed release? Did his brokers receive anything?"
"They received a corrupted data file containing a legal non-disclosure agreement and a direct trace routing back to their own physical servers," Sebastian replied, a dark, genuinely amused smile pulling at the corners of his lips. He set his coffee down and reached out, his long fingers gently catching her hand, taking the brass key from her palm. He walked to the edge of the terrace and tossed it over the side.
Natalie watched the key flash once in the bright morning sun before it plummeted into the dark, churning waters of the Thames below.
"The past is buried," Sebastian murmured, turning back to face her. He stepped closer, his hands sliding around her waist, drawing her flush against his chest. The commanding, powerful scent of his cologne filled her senses, anchoring her. "There is no charter, no hidden debt, and no family bloodline left to contest what we have built. By noon, the London exchange will finalize the Eurozone merger under your direct signature."
Natalie leaned into his embrace, her dark eyes flashing with the brilliant, sovereign fire that had defined her journey from a bartered captive to the co-ruler of a global empire. She reached up, her fingers lightly tracing the line of his collarbone.
"The London board will be waiting," she whispered against his chest.
"Let them wait," Sebastian murmured, his voice dropping into a low, fiercely intimate register that sent a delicious shiver down her spine. He reached up, his hand gently cupping her jaw, forcing her to look straight into his piercing gaze. The robotic, cold mask he wore for the world was completely gone, replaced by a raw, profound adoration that belonged solely to her. "For the first time since I took over the Vance Group, I am not looking over my shoulder. I am looking at the only asset that ever truly mattered."
Natalie smiled—a dangerous, beautiful expression of total victory—before leaning up to meet his lips. The kiss was deep, slow, and filled with the absolute certainty of their partnership. They had cleared the board, defeated every ghost, and rewritten the rules of the game.
Behind them, the sun continued to rise, flooding the penthouse in brilliant, golden light. The golden cage was gone, the empire was secured, and the true reign of the Vance dynasty had finally begun.
