Villain - Book Two
Chapter 21: The Gallery of Unfinished Dreams
The completed volume rested silently within the Cosmic Library.
Beside it...
A brand-new book slowly opened.
Its pages were blank.
Then, one word appeared.
BEGIN.
---
A year had passed.
Canvas City had become brighter than ever.
Children no longer feared the sky.
Artists painted freely.
The Hall of Life Frames had grown into the largest museum in the world.
Visitors came not to see miracles...
But memories.
Ren had become both a Frame Keeper and an artist.
Every week he visited schools, teaching children that every drawing, no matter how imperfect, carried a piece of the artist's heart.
The older Ren continued running the Blank Canvas Studio.
His students often asked why he never signed his paintings.
He always answered the same way.
"A picture belongs to everyone who feels something when they see it."
---
One quiet evening...
The silver butterfly returned.
It circled Ren once before flying toward the Hall of Life Frames.
Ren followed.
Inside, every glowing Life Frame had turned toward the center of the hall.
As if they were watching something.
A soft chime echoed.
The Heart Frame released a single thread of golden light.
It drifted through the ceiling.
Ren immediately called Kael.
"We've got another phenomenon."
Kael smiled.
"I was hoping retirement from saving reality would last longer than a year."
---
Soon...
Ren, Aiko, Mira, Kael, the older Ren, Orion, Abyss, the Creator, and the First Artist gathered beneath the glowing thread.
It continued rising until it pierced the clouds.
The sky opened like a curtain.
Beyond it...
Everyone saw the Gallery of Unfinished Dreams.
Only now...
It was no longer empty.
Thousands of new paintings covered its walls.
Children laughing.
Cities being rebuilt.
Friends reunited.
The future had begun painting itself.
The First Artist smiled.
"The Gallery is alive again."
---
Suddenly...
One painting shook violently.
Its colors drained away.
The frame cracked.
Another followed.
Then another.
Within seconds, dozens of futures began fading into gray.
Mira checked her scanner.
"No corruption."
"No erasure."
"This is something completely different."
The Creator's expression became serious.
"Someone isn't destroying futures."
"They're..."
The First Artist finished the sentence.
"...stealing possibilities."
---
The gallery doors slowly opened.
A lonely figure walked through them.
A teenage girl wearing a long gray coat.
Her hair was silver-white.
Her eyes contained no reflection.
She carried no weapon.
Only an old camera hanging around her neck.
Every photograph inside it was blank.
She looked around quietly.
"So..."
"This is where dreams are stored."
Ren stepped forward.
"Who are you?"
The girl tilted her head.
"I don't remember my name."
She looked at the blank photographs.
"I only remember my title."
She whispered it.
"The Collector."
---
The moment she spoke...
Every blank photograph floated into the air.
Each captured a possible future before sealing it inside.
A child who dreamed of becoming a musician suddenly forgot the dream.
An inventor abandoned a brilliant idea.
A poet could no longer imagine the ending to her story.
No memories vanished.
Only possibilities.
Aiko stared in disbelief.
"They're giving up..."
"They don't even know why."
---
The Collector looked at the floating photographs.
"I don't enjoy this."
"But unfinished dreams are dangerous."
Ren frowned.
"Who told you that?"
The girl's expression remained empty.
"I don't remember."
"Someone gave me this camera..."
"...and asked me to collect every future that might lead to suffering."
The older Ren's face darkened.
"That sounds familiar."
The First Artist nodded.
"History has begun repeating itself."
---
Ren slowly approached the girl.
"What if I help you remember your name?"
For the first time...
The Collector hesitated.
She looked directly into Ren's eyes.
A single tear rolled down her cheek.
"I..."
"I almost remembered..."
Suddenly...
Every blank photograph exploded into gray light.
A cold voice echoed through the Gallery.
"Do not remember."
The Collector clutched her head in pain.
The camera transformed into chains of gray light, wrapping around her arms.
The voice spoke again.
"Continue collecting."
The girl whispered through tears,
"I'm sorry..."
Then she disappeared into a swirling doorway of faded colors.
Silence returned.
Ren clenched his fists.
"The same thing happened to the Blank Artist."
The older Ren nodded.
"This time..."
"We save her before she becomes the villain."
The First Artist looked toward the endless Gallery.
A single empty frame appeared on the highest wall.
Its title slowly wrote itself in silver letters.
THE COLLECTOR OF TOMORROWS
Beneath it...
One sentence appeared.
"Every stolen dream leaves behind an empty future."
Ren raised the First Brush.
The adventure had begun again.
Not to defeat an enemy.
But to rescue someone who had forgotten she deserved a tomorrow.
