Chapter 32 : The Pacific Directive
The executive boardroom was silent enough to hear the faint hum of the server banks built into the walls. Twelve senior vice presidents stood at attention, their tablets tucked under their arms, waiting for the signal to sit.
Sebastian casually gestured toward the long mahogany table. "Take your seats."
The room moved in unison, chairs scraping softly against the deep navy carpet.
Natalie glanced across the line of executives. Six months ago, these men and women were loyalists to the old guard—men who reported directly to Matteo Vance or answered to Arthur Lopez’s shadowy networks. Now, they sat with their spine straight, eyes focused entirely on the center of the table where Natalie and Sebastian’s folders lay side by side.
"The Pacific corridor," Natalie began, her tone crisp and conversational, yet leaving no room for debate. "Singapore’s maritime holdings have been mismanaging the fuel hedge contracts for two quarters. They’re running a soft deficit, hoping the Eurozone transition would draw our eyes away from the Straits."
She didn't need to look at a monitor; the balance sheets were etched into her memory.
"Director Chen believes his distance gives him leverage," Sebastian added, his deep baritone cutting through the quiet room like a low roar. He leaned forward, resting his powerful forearms on the table. "He assumes that because the Vance Group’s historic roots are in New York and London, we will handle Singapore with diplomatic gloves."
"He assumes wrong," Natalie said smoothly. She tapped her screen, pushing a single file to the main holographic display at the end of the room. "We aren't offering Chen a restructuring package. We’re offering him an exit."
A ripple of quiet surprise passed through the executive team.
"Mrs. Vance," Marcus, the chief legal counsel, spoke up carefully. "Chen holds twelve percent of the voting rights in the Asian-Pacific subsidiary. Stripping his command without a full board vote could trigger a proxy fight."
Natalie met Marcus’s eyes, a cold, elegant smile touching her lips. "Chen's twelve percent was leveraged against a private loan structure tied to an offshore shell in the Cayman Islands. A shell that belonged to my uncle, Julian Vance."
She swiped her finger across the glass tablet, bringing up the asset seizure documents they had finalized forty-eight hours after Wapping Pier.
"Julian’s default triggers the cross-collateralization clause," Natalie continued. "As of eight o'clock this morning, those voting rights belong to the sovereign trust. Sebastian and I control sixty-four percent of the Singapore board before our jet even hits the tarmac."
Marcus stared at the display, then slowly closed his leather ledger. A faint, admiring breath escaped his lips. "The trap was sprung before he even knew he was in a fight."
"That is how we operate now, Marcus," Sebastian said, his icy blue eyes sweeping the room, instilling absolute discipline in every director present. "No prolonged campaigns. No political games. We eliminate the conflict before the opening bell."
Sebastian turned his head toward Natalie, the cold, razor-sharp edge in his demeanor softening into an unshakeable, profound warmth meant only for her. He reached out under the mahogany table, his long fingers finding hers, gripping her hand firmly.
Natalie squeezed his fingers back, feeling the steady, dangerous electric connection that had turned them into an unstoppable force.
"Dismissed," Natalie ordered calmly.
The executives rose in unison, gathering their devices and filing out of the room with quiet efficiency.
When the heavy doors clicked shut, leaving only the two of them in the vast executive suite, Sebastian pulled her chair slightly closer to his, his gaze burning with total, unvarnished devotion.
"You took his leverage in three moves," Sebastian whispered, his thumb tracing the back of her hand.
"I learned from the best," Natalie murmured, tilting her head up, her dark eyes flashing with a sovereign fire. "Singapore is already ours, Sebastian. What’s next?"
Sebastian leaned down, his lips brushing hers in a slow, possessive promise. "Whatever we decide to take."
