Emily sat there on the floor, staring at the blank pages in awe without a blink.she kept on flipping with the hope that there will be a writing on at least a page, but she kept on flipping until she reached the end of the book.
“Is this a fake? Or does it require some kind of magic.”
She wondered as she looked at the book title but to her surprise there was no title.
“What the…”
Her words trailed off as she quickly got up and ran out of her room to Arthur’s.
“Arthur, did you…did you…”
But poor Emily could not complete her sentence after she ran all the way there without stopping. She paused to take on a breath while Arthur just sat there and waited for her to calm down.
“Are you ready to talk now?”
Hw asked when he noticed she had calmed down and she gave him a small smile.
“Yeah, um, did you by mistake swap the book I showed you earlier?”
“No, I didn’t. Why would I?”
“You didn’t?” “No.”
“So what happened?”
She asked more to herself than to him and took one more look at the book in confusion.
“Is there a problem?” Arthur asked in concern but Emily’s attention wasn’t there of course. There was only one place left for her to check.
“Bye!” She said and ran out of the room in hope, leaving Arthur in confusion.
“Bye? You sure?”
“Yeah, love you!”
“Hm.” Arthur grunted and faced his work while Emily on the other hand, ran towards the library without stopping until she got there.
When she got there, she paused to catch her breath and continued walking down by the time she became calm. She walked hastily to the very place she took the book but it was empty, and once again, she looked at the book in her hand in uttermost confusion.
“Looking for something?”
She gasped and jumped in shock when she heard the manly voice of her dad and forced out a smile on her face to face him.
“You startled me, dad.”
“I’m sorry, but you looked lost.”
“Confused.” “Yeah, confused.”
Humphrey corrected himself and Emily sighed at herself.
“I’m sorry, I was just thinking.”
“About what?”
She gulped at that question and looked away.
“Uh, something.”
“That I shouldn’t know?” “Not exactly.”
Emily said and looked at her father before speaking
“I was looking for a book.”
She finally said and his the book she held, but she wasn’t as smart as she thought because when Humphrey took a look at his library, and in particular the direction Emily faced, he noticed a certain missing book.
“Hm, interesting.”
She looked in his direction and immediately her heart skipped a beat. He looked at her and folded his hands.
“Care to explain?”
“I took it, it’s here…with me.” She replied with her head lowered
“Is that why you’re here?”
“Uh, something weird happened to the book.”
“Let me see.”
Humphrey said and immediately Emily showed him the book which he examined.
“There was a title here when I took it but after I opened it, went through the pages and saw that they were blank and I closed it, nothing was written here.”
“What did you see before?”
She paused at that question for a while before answering him
“Two hundred decades ago.”
Humphrey paused at that statement and exchanged glances between Emily and the book before finally giving out a sigh to speak.
“And what were you doing with the book?”
“I like history.” “You mean scary?”
He corrected because he remembered when she told him she loved scary novels and nothing else. She became dumbfounded as she looked for the right words to say.
“No, I meant history. I like a lot of genres lately and history is among, besides, the title sounded scary too.”
He looked at her for a while and even though he didn’t believe her, he decided not to push it.
“When did you hear of this book?”
“A long time ago.”
“From your parents?”
“From my spirit guide.”
