Why Do We Lie?

I think we lie because the truth is not always easy to accept. We lie when we are afraid of the consequences, when we want to avoid an argument, when we want to protect ourselves, or when we think the truth might hurt someone.

For me, lying is not always about being dishonest. Sometimes, it is about choosing the easier option. The truth can demand explanations, decisions, and responsibility, while a lie can end a difficult conversation instantly.

I also believe that we lie because we want to control how others see us. We hide our mistakes, exaggerate our achievements, and sometimes change the truth to make ourselves look better. In that way, lying can become a way of protecting our image.

But I don't think every lie has the same intention. Some lies come from selfishness, some from fear, and some from the wish to avoid hurting someone. Still, a good intention does not automatically make a lie right.

What I have understood is that lying is a very human thing. We lie because we are not always brave enough to face the truth, not always ready to accept its consequences, and not always willing to deal with what comes after it.

So, why do we lie?

I think we lie because sometimes the truth asks more from us than we are willing to give.
