Chapter 1 : Abuse
Two years ago a fifteen year old named Cato Ledger had a incident that changed him to who he is today.
"Who the hell do you think you are!"
As Cato's mom swung beating him, and bruising him.
"You're just like your father, I hate you!"
He stayed silent enduring all the beatings and insults being thrown at him. He just wanted to cover for his cousin who stole from his mom, he wanted to be nice and not get anyone in trouble other than him and look where he is now.
"I should've aborted you when I had the chance."
"I'm sorry, I'll never do it again I'm sorry."
The tears rolled down his face after she said that to him; The pain in his chest grew stronger. Cato didn't know what to do. After his beating he walked away limping to his room holding his tears back until he made it to his bed.
"Why me, lord why do you do this; why am I in so much pain."
"You know what lord, I'm gonna take my own fucking life because of you! All of this damn pain for what? Are you trying to push me to the edge?"
Cato cried and cried silently in his room all alone in the dark questioning his life more and more. He soon was fast asleep but later woke up in pain from the bruising on his hands, arms, back and legs. Tearing up he started scratching away at his chest and neck as he was feeling the mixed emotions that he bottled up ready to explode.
He couldn't go to school because he was such a emotional mess and also the bruises that pained him. He finally got off his bed at 11 am after missing school, limping around his small apartment looking for food. It was hard for him to eat because of the pain in his arms and hands, but he was able to get some leftover rice and sat at the table.
"Shit, cant even hold a damn spoon."
It took him awhile to finish his food but he did. He did his everyday norms, eating sleeping, using the bathroom, listen to music and reading. Fast forwarding two years later in high school as a freshman now.
"Hey Cato! How was your break?"
"Cato, my boy how long has it been?"
Questions flooded him at school on his first day. He grew popular during the past year and summer getting to know a lot more people. Burring those memories deep down into his brain trying to forget all the abuse and insults.
Making his way to all his different classes he gets to his fifth period meeting new people and one person stood out to Cato. Cato made his way to the kid and started up a conversation rambling on about hobbies and sports they played.
"Hey, I never got to ask what's your name?"
"Oh yeah, my name's Fielder Gray. What's your name?"
"My name is Cato Ledger."
They soon got to know each other well enough to call one another a good friend. They hung out with eachother after school every other day just going around stealing from stores, sneaking into theaters, just living their life while their young. Sitting at a park ready to end their day.
"Today was a good day, thank you Cato."
"No problem Field anytime."
Fielder makes his way home as the light from the sun fades and the bright moon begins to show. Entering his house a bottle is thrown at him.
"Why the hell were you out so late huh? You should be thankful I took you in if you weren't my brothers kid I would've just left you!"
His aunt took Fielder in after his father died in a car crash with Fielder in the car and his mother killing herself due to the stress.
"If your gonna insult and abuse me every damn day just give me up, it's not that hard!"
Fielder said bottling up his anger ready to burst. Tears begin to flow down his face trying to hold them back.
"You should've died not your father, you damn ungrateful shit!"
Storming out the front door and past his gate he turns and runs into this girl. She looks the same age as him and Cato so about fifteen to sixteen.
"Ugh what the hell? Watch where your going!"
Not being able to hold his tears back Fielder got up and ran away not saying nothing to the girl on the ground. Four months into the school year during the winter time, in Cato's and Fielder's fifth period class a new student walks in introducing herself.
"Hi my name's Naya. Naya May."
"Take a seat anywhere Naya."
Naya looks around for an open seat and notices Fielder. She stands there thinking to herself why does he seem familiar.
"Aye Field, I think she's staring at us?"
"Nah Cato, your just imagining things."
Naya starts to walk their way remembering where she had seen him. Taking the seat next to Fielder. Cato and Fielder starts to whisper to eachother.
"I told you dumbass she was staring at us."
"Why would she stare at us she barely knows us."
Arguing about Naya staring at them she decides to join the conversation surprising them both.
"Hey, do you remember me?"
Asking Fielder the question. He stops talking and thinks trying to remember. Thinking harder and harder the teacher starts the lecture leaving Naya's question unanswered.
The bell rings to end class and make their way to the next and final period. Cato and Fielder walks together talking about if they should ditch the period and leave school.
"Should we jump the back gate C?
"Yeah the proctors aren't around their right now so we should get going."
"Whatcha talking about?"
Naya acting all cute, scaring the two.
"What the hell?"
They said in sync.
"What? Im just wondering what you both were talking about?"
"Well we were talking about ditching the next class and leaving the school."
"Can I join please?"
"Um sure if your fast enough."
Making there way through the campus running to the back gate a proctor notices them.
"What are y'all doing out of class?"
They didn't stop. Adrenaline starts to pump they run faster and faster ignoring the proctor behind them. They get to the gates in the back of the school jumping the fence running away and not stopping till they are a few blocks aways from the school. Out of breath they stop falling onto the sidewalk breathing hard.
"Ughh, C what the hell man I thought they weren't around there?"
"Bro how was I supposed to know they open the gates when fifth period starts!"
Out of breath they keep on nagging at eachother while Naya is sitting on the curb near the road sweating.
"Wow, that was fun!"
They both look up with a weird look on their face.
"Was that your first time ditching?"
"Yes sir!"
Laughing her ass off, the other starts to join her laughing as well.
"I never asked, what are your names?"
"Oh, well my name's Cato and he's Fielder."
"Nice to meet you both. But Fielder do you remember me now?"
"Oh yeah! Its been awhile hasn't it; How do you remember me?"
"Y'all know eachother?"
Cato was confused on how they knew each other but decided to stop asking questions and have fun since they ditched.
They went around going into stores and stealing candy, ice cream, and sodas. After they did that they went to the theaters and decided to sneak in. They made their way to the mall after the movie. Fielder decided to pay for whatever Cato and Naya wanted.
"Hey Field, where'd you get all this money?"
"I-I work. Yeah I started working."
"Lucky ass I still can't get a job I need the permit."
Cato acts like he was fooled by the obvious lie but he just goes with it; Same with Naya, she decides to act dumb as well but she grows suspicious.
