We were inseparable that's the first word will come to your mind if you see us.
We are childhood friends.
We live in the same neighborhood.
Attend the same school.
But that's before.
Now.
We are thousand miles apart.
He chose to study abroad, while I choose to study here.
We are separated now for more than 15 years.
He said before, he will just study there and be back after he acquired masters degree.
But since he left, I never heard any news about him.
Maybe he decided to stay there and be with his parents.
His parents lived in other country and only visits him occasionally. He lives with his grandparents before but his grandparents left the town and we don't know where they moved.
I left my hometown after I got a job in a well-known veterinary clinic in the city. I am now a veterinarian.
I'm work here for almost 5 years already and I'm already close to pet owners.
"Hey, that dog owner really likes you why don't you date him?" The Vet assistant told me.
"I don't have time." I said
"No time? you have no time for the past years?" the vet assistant said
"Yes." I said
"Why? still waiting for that guy?" the vet assistant asked
"No. I'm waiting for the right man." I said
"Then it's him right? He didn't contact you for the past 15 years. Why you still wait for him?" the vet assistant said
"I said I'm waiting for the right man. not him. If he choose to lived there then I respect that." I said and left the room and go to my locker and change my clothes to get off from work.
While I'm walking in the bustling street, I put my headphones on and listens to my favorite songs.
Headphones on means forget your worries, your sadness and be in your own world.
While I'm walking. . . Someone caught my attention.
Him.
He is now few steps away from me.
What should I do?
But in the end I choose to ignore him.
I walk past him.
After I do that.
I want to look back and see if he is chasing me.
But I have no courage to do that because I'm afraid. I'm afraid that he didn't turn around and chase me.
I got home feeling lonely.
Why he didn't chase me?
Why I never heard any news from him?
Why he suddenly came back without giving me any notice?
Why?
Or he doesn't know me anymore?
Did he forget me?
I was sitting lazily on my couch and lost in thoughts when my doorbell rang.
I stood up and opened the door.
Its him again.
"Can I come in?" The first thing he said to me after 15 years.
I admit.
I miss his deep voice.
I miss him.
After he said those words, I suddenly can't speak.
"Then I'll treat your silence as a yes."
He came in and sit on my couch.
"You probably wondering why I'm here, Okay I'll tell you. I'm getting married." he said.
After hearing those words.
I feel pain.
"Congrats." The only word I say.
"That's it?" he asked
"Don't worry, I will prepare a gift for you. What does your future wife likes?" I said
"She likes animals." he said
"Oh. Then I will give her a pet, What kind of pet she likes?" I asked
"All." he said
"That's hard for me to decide what kind of pet she likes. Ask her for me." I said.
"You. what kind of pet you want?" he asked
"Dogs and cats." I said
"Then give her a dog and a cat." he said
"Why? Your wife preference is different from mine. You should ask her."
"Still don't understand?" he stood up and came closer to me
"I understand already. You will be getting married and your future wife likes animals, so I have to give her a pet." I said
"Then who is my future wife?" he asked
"Why are you asking me who is your future wife? You should know it not me." I said and I was about to walk towards the kitchen to get him a glass of water
"You still don't get my point." he said while grabbing my wrist
" Then explain it to me for me to understand." I said
"You." He said while looking into my eyes
"Yes me, explain it to me so that I can get your point." I said
"You are the person I want to marry." he said
"Huh?" the only word that came out from me
"You are my future wife." He said
"I did not remember you proposed to me, besides I didn't heard any news about you for the past years." I said
"When we were in highschool, we said to each other that we will acquire a masters degree, have a stable job, be successful and marry the person we love the most, right?" he said
"I remember that." I said
"Then, I'm already here to marry the person I love the most" he said
"I have a masters degree, a stable job, became successful. and the only thing left is to marry the person I love." he said again
" Why you took so long to come back?" I asked
" I'm sorry if I took so long." he said
"Will you stay here for good?" I asked
"If you let me stay by your side then I will." he said
"I really really missed you." I said
He suddenly hug me tight.
" I love you." he said
