[Reality, Poem] The Background

Description: The heroes are always in the spotlight and the background is just to make them look better. What if you were that background? Except you never really noticed until now...

Story start:

Spotlights surround me

Shining so bright

Yet why can’t I seem to see

Any of the lights?

It’s dark, it’s cold

I cannot see a thing

Surrounded in my own world

Now, can it start shining?

Born with the brightest smile

Laugh and personality

Even from a mile

Making someone smile wasn’t a difficulty

Loving all attention from friends and family

I twirl my dress saying

“This is the one I love most dearly”

Surely my time to shine is coming?

To be a princess

Was a dream come true

So I loved to wear dresses

And high heeled shoes

I lived in a world of my own

Ignoring what would come and go

Thinking that if I continued this show

My fairytale would one day be told

For 12 years I believed

That one day

My prince charming would come for me

And so I would pray and pray

It was only when I hit 13

Then did I come to my senses

Opening my eyes to what I had not seen

Realising my utter foolishness

I am not the heroine

And will never be

Love will never be a word in my dictionary

And friendships will never be my cup of tea

The world has ignored me

Just like the life

I chose to lead

So now I only have myself to chide

Yes, blame me

For my arrogance

Blame me

For my hopeless wishes

Because in the end

I am not even close to a side character

Because in the end

I am just part of the background

So till today

I cannot even watch the heroine

See prince charming

Or the side stories

Without the spotlight

I cannot see

And the spotlight

Will never shine on me

Cause I am the background

And forever will be

Afterword: Hi! This is a true story about my life. Since young I’ve always thought I should be the center of attention until I open my eyes to see that I’m just part of the background. The story is a bit vague and short cause like the background, there’s nothing much to really talk about :( It’s my second poem-story ever, after “ProAntagonist”, so sorry for the mistakes and please enjoy!
