The discussion dragged on for hours. WanLi badly wanted to tap his feet on the ground and drum his fingers on the table but mannerisms are a taboo. He has always been taught that unnecessary gestures would lead to the opposite party's annoyance. It is a sign of utter disrespect and impatience.
He was the expected successor for the position of chief as he was to marry the chief's daughter. Traversing to the Immortal's Realm would take few, if not several, years to complete.
There would be many unforeseen situations, whether they may be of fortunate occurrence or not, that will happen. This was the reason why only the younger generation were predicted to survive the travel.
"Just for us, all the previous generations have sacrificed much. They have been searching for informations and resources to get us through the other realm. I would one day lead our population home, I can't let them down. I must be a perfect leader."
Even in small ways, WanLi desired to portray his discipline and leadership to prove to everyone that he truly deserves the title and not just in name.
He was strong but he wasn't the bravest nor the most heroic. He and YingYue were the same. It can be said that they are a match made in heaven. WanLi preferred to be carefree and nonchalant like a regular child of his age.
Authority is also built through time. He must always show his value, else people's belief in him would falter. Showing one's true face isn't worth a penny and would only cause his family's disappointment.
Even though, WanLi and YingYue both carry equal responsibilities, he would choose to shoulder them all. He wishes YingYue to be able to act the way she wants. He would rather work hard, break a bone, cry tears of blood than see YingYue sad.
He had considered her as a family, a partner for life. Seeing her happy was worth everything else in this world. Not even the sun can be as radiant as her smile. It could melt away his worries and drive away his sorrows.
Maybe his resolve to help others and keep going stems not from deep within himself, but from the inspiration of her, even so, if you ask:" is there a difference between this two resolves?" The answer of yes or no would be insignificant.
Another question lingers, is this Love? he does not know. But if it is not, can something else be greater than this? All he understands is that he'll stand on her side through all the pandemonium.
He would sit with his back straight and head high, not willing to slouch. He would occasional smile or laugh at a random joke appearing in the conversation.
WanLi swirled his tea cup gently creating tiny waves on the surface. This was the only movement he could afford to do.
