I stand in the garden of Crystal palace surrounded by people in black attire. Large bushes sit on each side of us. Tears flow down my round face as they lower my once caring husband into the ground.
The breeze picks up, and I have to push my long black hair out my face to see. A woman from somewhere behind me sobs uncontrollably and a young child wails. A man breaks through the crowd and stops write in front of the large grave. The man just stands there processing the loss of his older son.
After a few moments of silence he turns to face the crowd. He clears his throat and begins speaking. "Tonight we mourn the loss of our great king." As he speaks his blue eyes make contact with mine and I give him a small smile.
"My son, King Ellios, was a great son. He never gave up when things got tough and was always determined to accomplish his goals. Sadly, he couldn't beat the demons inside. As his father I could see his smoke begin to fade, but there was one person who could bring it back. I'm happy he found happiness with our queen. At least for a bit."
After the ceremony, everyone left but me. I just stood there staring at the tombstone. I sit down beside the grave and smooth down my black dress and think about the warmth in my husband's brown eyes and his big smile on his freckled face.
******I wish you let me in. I wish you helped me understand what you were going through Instead, you kept me in the dark and hung yourself from our balcony when you've finally had too much.******
I look up into the night sky and my father-in-law sits down beside me. His eyes shining with unshed tears and his white hair disheveled. He offers me a tight smile and I give him a small smile. "How long have you known he was going through depression," I ask.
"I've known for a while but didn't know how to help," he answers without hesitation. I think back to a time when I could have seen something that could have been off, but couldn't find any.
"I am such a terrible wife. Why couldn't I see something was wrong? I would have tried my best to help him as much as I could." Argos looks at me for a second as he considers what to say.
" I think he hid it from you because he loved you and didn't want to worry you," he says as he rises from the ground. He pats my shoulder before he makes his way back to the palace. The sound of his shoes fade as he gets farther away. I sit in silence for a minute before I decide to leave.
I sigh and begin to walk away. I look at my loves grave one more time before I walk away.
*****Goodbye, Elli.*****
