The binturong (Arctictis binturong), also known as the bearcat, is a tree-dwelling mammal native to Southeast Asia. It has a shaggy black coat, a long prehensile tail, and smells like buttered popcorn due to its scent glands. Despite its name, it's not a bear or a cat, but a member of the civet family. Binturongs are nocturnal, omnivorous, and play a key role in rainforest ecosystems by spreading seeds, especially from fig trees. They are currently classified as Vulnerable due to habitat loss and hunting.
