Star Picking

Night in the heavenly realm is peaceful, yet there are two people still awake.

"Lianhua! You're finally here!" Cheng Ying happily greeted her.

"What is it that you want to show me?" Lianhua asks as she rubs the sleep from her eyes.

"Close your eyes."

Lianhua gave Cheng Ying a confused look.

"Why?"

"Just do it," he tells her.

She let out a sigh but still closes her eyes. Cheng Ying walked behind her and picked her up bridal style.

"Ah! What are you..." she shouted as she wraps her arms around his neck to avoid falling.

Cheng Ying smiled when she wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Shh. Keep your eyes close. Don't open them until I tell you to."

Lianhua quieted down and did as she was told.

Cheng Ying jumped up and flew through the sky with her in his arms. Lianhua can feel the cold wind of the night brushing against her cheeks. In a short while, he landed in a field of white moonlight flowers. These flowers only bloom at night, and the scent that they give off attracts fireflies. He set her down on her feet and whispered into her ears.

"You can open your eyes now."

Lianhua slowly opens her eyes, and the view that appeared in front of her made her heart skip. The white flowers made the ground look like a field of snow, and the glowing fireflies danced around her. Lianhua smiled widely as she spins around.

"It's so beautiful!" she shouted.

"I told you I would take you star picking one day," Cheng Ying said with a smile.

His handsome face shines under the moonlight. The two were as beautiful as white jade, carved into two lover pendants. However, one of them was oblivious to the loving actions of the other.

Lianhua stopped spinning around and ran up to Cheng Ying, embracing him. Cheng Ying was shocked by her embrace, but he soon felt comfortable. He let out a gentle smile and hugged her back. Lianhua then released him from her embrace.

"I miss seeing fireflies. Back on Earth, the man who took care of me would blow his flute, and the fireflies would come"

"Lianhua... I lo--" Cheng Ying was about to confess his love for her, but he was interrupted by Meigui.

"Lianhua! I got news for you! I ran to your room, but you weren't there. So I used my powers to try and scout out where you are. The plants told me you were here! I'm so glad I found you!"

"Meigui! Look at how beautiful this place is!" Lianhua shouted back

Once Meigui got close to Lianhua, she held her hands tightly.

"Lianhua, I have news on the man that you've been talking about. I heard he just finished his life span and is regarded as a hero for teaching unfortunate kids knowledge for free. I did some bribing so that you can grant his wish tomorrow," Meigui informs her with a smile on her face.

"Really!? This is great! Thank you, Meigui!" Lianhua said happily. She pulled Meigui into her embrace.

Cheng Ying stands to the side, his smile now lost in a sea of sorrow.
