Dread

If one word can perfectly describe me right now, it'd be "dread".

When I was a kid, I often fantasized a day in the future where I got involved in extraordinary events, like alien invasion, zombie apocalypse, magic awakening, and so on.

I lived my life believing that will happen and prepared for that moment.

I attended school while training in dojos. But even when the compulsory education was over nothing paranormal happened.

College life. Nothing happened.

Work life. Nothing happened.

Of course, non-paranormal events happened that made me happy from time to time, but that also gave me the feeling of dread. Dreadful that nothing out of ordinary will ever happen till the day I die.

Imagining myself continuing this mundane life for years to come makes me sick.

I need to go.

Where?

The only place within the country that has possibility of hosting supernatural is there.

Let's go, to the Abandoned City of Wato.

I thought of leaving a note for my friends and families, but I couldn't shake the feeling that even in Wato nothing will happen and I will return here again. So I just packed lightly and drove my car towards Wato.

Even in the country, it's a full day journey. On the road I ruminated what makes Wato different than other paranormal spot.

Wato was developed by aiming for a hybrid between a green city and futuristic city, thus it was built within a vast forest surrounded by mountains. The first part of the city was finished on 2015 and immediately populated by around 2000 people.

But something happened soon after, which was a series of disappearances.

Multiple investigations were launched but with no result and the population kept dwindling.

Finally, on 2018, the president herself issued an executive order to stop the development of Wato and evacuating all remaining populations.

Since then, many occult mania went there but they either didn't find anything or disappeared and never heard again.

It's now 2021 and I also will challenge this city.

Was it secret government experiment gone wrong? This is the prominent conspiracy theory. I also thought that might be possible. But immediately erased that possibility considering no checkpoint, no roadblocks or anything even after I reached the city's entrance.

I got out of the car and felt the surroundings.

I felt... nothing

Well, it's clear air for sure.

"Maybe there's nothing after all?", I mumbled

Well, I'm already here, so might as well explore this place. I continued on foot. It's now 10 AM, I drove the entire night so really sleepy. I didn't think that through really well.

I walked for a few minutes, the city is really clean and beautiful, as it should be since it's not that long since it's abandoned. Only no humans in sight.

Most doors aren't locked, so I just went in and check around.

11:50 AM, I'm so sleepy. I found a king sized bed in one of the house and I just fell asleep right then and there.

Eerie rustling sound woke me up, the sun is about to disappear in the horizon. The sound seemed to originated from all around the neighborhood.

"Am I finally going to experience paranormal event?", I asked myself, with a wide grin on my face.
