Weaving Through Water
“Meliae! Come back, Cparose will be angry if we’re gone too long! Hurry, come back.” My sister shouts from behind.
“Calm down, he‘ll never know and we have plenty of time!” I argue.
As I glide through the deep blue depths of the sea, I see breathtakingly beautiful coral reefs and many colorful fish. Suddenly I see a glint from the depths. I swim down and notice a giant metal plate,m and my reflection shines back at me. My dark silky waves of hair reach my waist and my bright red eyes stand out through my light complexion. My eyes are often mocked through the tribe because all the other nymphs have dark sapphire blue eyes except for me, bright red fiery eyes.
With a flick of my tail, I reach the surface to meet my sister.
“Are you ready to go back now? Cparose and the others will furious if we don’t make it back in time for the festival.” She says impatiently.
The festival is when every full moon, all the nymphs in the sea join in the Adriatic Sea and we sing and swim under the rule of our god, Poseidon. And I’m the only planning on not being there.
“Sister, you head back to the reef without me, I’ve dropped my neckace somewhere and I must get it.” I say randomly making up an excuse to get away.
“Of course! I’ll head back first.” She says brightly at the thought of leaving, as she dives beneath the waves.
I watch as her tiny body becomes smaller and smaller in the distance until she disappears. Perfect I think excitedly. I dive down and take off through the nearest current and ride all the way until my destination.
Our tribe is called the Nerieds, led by our leader Cparose. We are a tribe of water nymphs who are free to roam the ocean to whatever we please. We have three rules only, always worship our god Poseidon, never hurt or harm others, and thirdly the most important, never come in contact with humans. We normally aren’t supposed to go out to sea by ourselves but I’m not nine to care for rules.
I make way down to the reefs and spy what I’m looking for. The Shark Cave, favorite place to watch the graceful stealthy creatures. I once told my sister about the Shark Cave but then she told on me because she thought it was too dangerous and I couldn’t go back for almost a month. Luckily she’s forgot by now. I watch as the sharks glide back and forth guarding their cave. Until it stops and suddenly jerks around. The shark then races toward me full speed and I barely manage to get out the way before it crashes into the reef, destroying my only barrier between the sharks. Suddenly I am swarmed by the sharks, as they close in on me about to devour their prey.
