Noah took a deep breath.This night air and silence is something she likes the most.She looked at the lake beyond the bridge.The atmosphere made her relax. She was engulfed in the thoughts of him...

"Noah... "

His voice cut through the silence of the night. She turned around to see her beloved Eric.

"Eric... "

She whispered his name. His face was bright even if it was dark. She could feel he was as hesitant as her.

Till the evening, she was worried how to face him. Its been so long. The weeks and days of making up her mind...

Her eyes lit up. She smiled at him happily. He haven't changed. His eyes, his face, his smile...

He tried to smile back at her.

"Its been a long time... "

"Yeah... "she shuddered.

She have changed. Her face seemed weary and her eyes showed tiredness. But she gave him the best of her smiles.

He pulled her into a hug. Noah's eyes filled with tears. The wiped them away leaning to his shoulder.

Eric was happy to see her again. But he was sad. He don't know how to tell her the news. He don't know how would she react.

After sometime, she pulled back. They stood silently leaning to the bridge hand.

"I want to tell you something..."Eric began ending the silence.

She was relieved a little. She wanted Eric to talk first even if she knew what he was about to tell. She looked at him with a smile assuring him to say it.

"I'm engaged to Rowa.Our engagement was yesterday. "After a pause he commented "I couldn't contact you."

Three of them were best friends since childhood.

"As you know, Rowa can't talk or hear. So I never stood against her wishes as she is my friend since childhood. I never knew she loved me. I had no other choice other than accepting to marry her..."Eric continued

Noah tried not to let her tears to fall... Even if she knew that, hearing it from him was hard and heartbreaking.

She ignored the shooting pain from her head and smiled widely.

"I know... "she sighed and holded back the pain in her heart.

"I'm happy for you... "

He looked at her eyes with disbelief. Is that all? How can she respond like that?

She never really loved him? Where did she disappear suddenly? Is this all she have to say after all these months?

He couldn't control his mind terribly questioning him.

"Is that all you have to say? "His eyes showed pain as he took hold of Noah's hand, his eyes intense...

"Where were you all these times? "He hissed.

Noah took her hand from him and avoided his gaze.

"I was about to say... "she started with a sigh..

"I was at hospital for long....Brain tumor. Last stage....probably and.... it was too late for me....So I left there.... because....I wanted to see you.....for one last time. "

She confessed, stammering. Tears rolled down her cheeks.

Eric was beyond shocked. He should have been with her all these time. He hated himself for hating her for abandoning him. What would have she felt?

Only then did he notice the scarf covering her hair and head. His heart wept with guilt and sadness.

"I was making up my mind for so long. I didn't know how to tell you. I never wanted you to worry about me".

For the first time, he felt more and more miserable. He pulled her into a tight hug. He couldn't stop the tears from falling.

He should have been with her all these time. But here he is...going to marry some other girl.Noah didn't wanted to worry him. But she was dreadfull and terrible all this time while he hated her for not calling back and disappearing. She pulled away. 

"I want you to be happy even if its without me.Take care of Rowa. She is a good girl. Be  happy... "She shuddered.

Suddenly she fell to his hands with a gasp. Eric holded her worried.

"Are you okey? " he cried. He sat her on the side and wrapped his arms around her. She slowly opened her eyes.

"I think...its time to go... good bye Eric... love u..." she uttered with a weary voice before closing her eyes forever. She didn't forget to smile at him one last time.

"Noah...Don't leave me... "Eric pleaded. His voice cracking... Her hands turned to ice cubes. No response. Its over.... his Noah is no more. He turned into a rock. Tears falling.Only then did he realise he loved her more than anyone or anything in this world...

Something caught his attention. A papper in Noah's hand. She was clutching it strongly. He took it from her hand. Shaking, he opened it.

Eric,

I'm sorry for making you feel like I abandoned you. I really didn't wanted to leave you but its just I didn't wanted to worry you. I'm sorry for not telling you anything.

I will die soon. Its the last stage of brain tumor. Please don't  breakdown even if i die.

Take care of Rowa. Take care of yourself and be happy forever.

I want you to be happy even if it's without me...Love you today, tomorrow and always...

His tears wetted the paper note.

"I love you Noah... and i will love you forever."

He whispered to Noah holding her tightly towards him.

Eric was going through the books in the attic.

His wife was also cleaning and his children were playing in living room in her presence.

He came to the attic for cleaning the old books. He came across a thick binded book. By opening the first page, he could tell it was his wife Rowa's diary. He didn't open further. He put it aside. Suddenly something fell out of it.It was a letter. It caught his attention.

He opened the letter to find it was addressed to Rowa. He was shocked to find it was from Noah. He couldn't help but read it.

Dear Rowa,

                   Hope you are doing well.I'm writing this letter to tell you something important. I know Eric is looking for me. But I don't want him to...

I don't even know if I can see him for one last time. It's already late for me...I'm suffering from brain tumor. Doctors said I won't live long.

I know...this must be something I should be telling you directly. Don't tell Eric. I want to tell him myself. I don't know if I can. But I want to see him one last time. Only if God grants...

I want you to marry Eric and live happily. I know you love him. He won't say no to your wish as well. That's my wish. I want both of you to get married and be happy. I know you won't let me say this if I'm in front of you. I know you would argue.

You sacrificed your love for me.Now, I think it's my time to let him go.Please hold on to him and never let go. I know you love him. I'm sure you can make him happy. I'm happy for both of you... Good bye....

Some tear drops wetted the paper in Eric's hand. He realised he was crying. Noah, Rowa and Eric were best friends since childhood.

He put the letter back and wiped his tears away. He went to living room to find Rowa.

Rowa looked up when Eric's shadow hovered over her. He sat in front of her and hugged her with teary eyes.

She didn't say anything she just hugged him with love and all her heart. Nic, Eva and Riva came running to join the hug of their lovely family. 

And that was what they were, A lovely family ! The shorties hugged him with love.

And that was all he wanted in that moment....
