After The Rain Stops
Lily was still staring at the passing vehicles through the thousands of raindrops outside. The cold air penetrated Lily's skin, causing the woman to occasionally rub her palms together.
She's been here for almost two hours. Waiting for someone she doesn't know whether to keep her promise or not. All she knew, she was just waiting for the rain today is to stop. Two glasses of matcha latte had accompanied her, but the person had not yet appeared.
Lily again breathed heavily. Bored. Lily was on the verge of falling asleep at this point. The sound of rain and cold air. It made Lily want to get out of there and go home immediately to sleep.
The sound of the bell attached to the door made Lily turn around for a moment. Nothing. It wasn't the person she was waiting for who came.
10 boring minutes passed with Lily trying to hold back her sleep. The bell rang again. Someone entered by brushing his hair which was wet from the rain. Lily turned around.
The man smiled briefly at Lily and sat down on the chair opposite Lily. He called the waitress and ordered coffee.
"Sorry I made you wait so long," he said.
"It's fine," Lily replied. She really wanted to curse the bad habit of the man in front of her; arrived late when they had an appointment. However, Lily realized one thing.
"How are you?" he asked.
"Fine, and you?" Lily asked back. The man just nodded in response he was fine.
"Your tastes haven't changed," he said.
Lily stared at the glass containing the third matcha latte she was going to drink today. For some reason, she had always
liked it.
"Yeah, I don't change easily."
Collapse. Lily let her guard down just like that. She regretted why she had to grumble inwardly waiting for the person to come. In reality her heart wasn't ready.
Another 10 minutes passed. kevin feels guilty but on the other hand he also can't hurt an innocent heart. Let this be their wound. Kevin believes that Lily is a strong person.
The small sobs from Lily's mouth were still drowned out by the sound of the rain, but it could still be heard clearly by Kevin. His little sister was crying again because of it. It wasn't that he had snatched the toy on purpose, or ruffled Lily's hair. However, this is a matter of the heart. Hearts of two adults.
Kevin grabbed Lily's hand. He held her tiny hand the same way he used to hold it when they walked together.
"Lily, I love you. You know tha-
"Yes, I understand," Lily cut Kevin's words.
Being someone who has always been protected by Kevin since they were little is a difficult thing for Lily to keep her heart from loving that man. And Kevin, the person who hurt the most when he saw Lily cry when being bullied by others, now had to blame himself because he had made her cry.
So when the distance is there, Lily is still keeping her heart, while Kevin tries to start opening his heart. No words of love were ever spoken. Lily loves in silence, only expresses in prayer.
Lily loves the figure who has been her sister since childhood, and Kevin tries to be naive by choosing to bind a completely innocent heart. It's difficult.
The rain outside is slowly subsiding. Not completely subsided but not as intense as before. Lily tried to make up her own mind. She's strong.
"Take care of him who loves you like you took care of me since the first. Don't let him cry," this is more than painful. Lily tightly squeezed her skirt under the table.
Kevin took a deep breath. "Lily, I'm sorry. Find him who can love you even though my love for you is still much bigger."
Lily nodded. There were many things she wanted to say directly, but all of them again could only choke. Again, this hurts.
Knowing the fact that Kevin will soon marry his idol, made Lily's heart feel like it was just ripped out. There was nothing Lily could do but cry.
Kevin knew she loved him. Long before he told Lily that he was getting married. Kevin knew this would be difficult for Lily, but he was sure that one day Lily would be fine and happy too.
Lily finished her matcha latte which had gone cold, as did Kevin. There is nothing more to say. Without revealing all already understand each other.
Kevin would be happy, and Lily would also have to find her happiness. One thing he realized, Kevin's position in her heart would never be replaced. Kevin is the same. Lily was still the most important person in his life.
"I will always be your little sister," Lily held up her little finger. Trying to prepare her heart for Kevin's happy day, trying to convince her heart for the day to come.
"I'll come on your happy day. I'll be happy as your little sister, I'll be celebrating as your family," Lily smiled.
Kevin linked his little finger with Lily. He knew that Lily was always more concerned with the happiness of the people she cared about than herself.
"I'm strong. Just like you always taught me all along," both smiled warmly.
The rain outside had completely stop. Little by little the sun began to appear. The rainbow is also beautifully engraved up there. Lily smiled.
Loving Kevin is bitter. Letting go of Kevin is just as bitter. And so Lily let the two of them fuse. Become a cloud that will drop rain, then a rainbow will come after it.
Lily believed that. Let it be, at least Kevin will never break his promise. Let this time and in the days to come Lily's heart wept. One day, Lily knew the rainbow was coming.
After paying for the order, the two decided to go home. There was nothing more to worry about even though Kevin was still thinking about Lily's condition. The two of them walked in the opposite directions. Although they are no longer side by side the same as when they were young and into their teens, they are not truly separated. They just have different goals.
The sun began to show itself again. With small steps towards the stop, Lily smiled.
