Hi, I'm Peter and this is my story.
I grew up in a poor family. My father was a carpenter. A very rich businessman lived beside our house. He had a very daughter named Alice. Alice and I became good friends. We were very young, and our friendship was totally innocent. Alice's father was respectable man. He didn't mind about our friendship. But Alice's mother didn't like me. Alice's mother hated our friendship. She told her husband...."Our daughter should make friendship with people of our standard." "That kid's very poor..." But Alice's father didn't think like that. As we grew up... Alice and my friendship grew stronger. We started dating... Alice's mother couldn't bear this... She sent Alice to another country to study... She just wanted to send Alice away from me. We understood everything but we were unable to do anything. Before she left the country, I gave Alice a copper ring. I had made it with my own hands. I had just started my business as a jeweler. Alice wore the ring. But after few months, our relationship faded. We promised to write letters to each other to keep in touch but nevertheless it ended very soon.
5 Years Passed.
I am now one of the top jewelers in my city. A few weeks ago, Alice came back to the city. She was marrying a wealthy guy. A minister's son. Just like her mother always wished. I was also invited to the wedding. Coincidentally, I knew the groom. He was one of my customers. He had bought his wedding ring from my store. I went to the wedding. I met Alice. She was still wearing my copper ring. She asked me, "What are you doing here?" I said, "Your fiancé invited me". "I didn't know you were marrying him". "The diamond ring for your wedding was made by me". Alice was surprised. She replied..."I didn't know you became such a famous jeweler". "I'm happy for you". Alice took out the copper ring out from her finger and gave it back to me. She said, "I'm sorry, Peter"..... "I don't deserve your ring" "I couldn't be strong enough to wait for you....." I took the ring and said, "It's okay, I can understand". After Alice left, her father came. I went to greet her father whom I hadn't met in a long while. I said, "You must be very happy today.. "Your daughter is getting married to a minister's son". Alice's father replied, "Alice's mother is happy" "If you ask me, I am not." I asked, "Why? What happened?" .. Alice's father replied sighing lightly, "I just found out about that guy". "Apparently, he's a rich jerk". I replied "Then cancel the marriage....Why are you allowing your daughter to marry such a snob?"... Alice's father went into silence mode for a minute. After a minute of silence he said, "Tell me Peter, do you still love my daughter?".. I was stunned with the question. I replied, "What?,Why?".. Alice's father replied, "Peter, I know you loved my daughter..." "And I know that she still loves you" "Do you still love my daughter?" "I must know, tell me the truth!" I couldn't hide the truth, so I told him that I still love her. You won't believe was Alice's father did next. He didn't cancel the wedding. Alice married that day. But she didn't marry the minister's son. Alice married me. We got married in the same wedding hall on the same day. Alice's mother was not happy with this but who cares everyone else was. It's been three years of our marriage and we lived and loved happily forever. And about the minister's son.... no one cares either he's rich he'll get another girl.
