What You Can't See

What You Can't See

The house that greets me

I walk up the stairs, a creak with each step, the house is old, and has foyege latched to it swallowing the house. My uncle had always been a strange man, living in an old house, away from others, and giving away his property to his niece, instead of his own children. Though as he stated before, he never wanted the house to be destroyed, and as his children have clearly stated they would tear it down. So he gave the house to me. It's old and the door creaks so loud the rat near the steps ran away. When I walk in, dust flew in the air from laying dormat for so long. A stair case lay on the left maybe 10 feet way, infront on the side is a door and on the right there was another two doors. When I was young i remember it being more welcoming than it was now, the door on the left led to the family room, and the doors on the right led to the dinning room, and the one farther down was the kitchen.

Unbothered to see what lays in them now I walk upstairs, the hallway horizontal to the steps. On the left was the library and office, but those were not my concern at the moment, I turn right and walk down the hallway, my shoes leaving imprints in the dust making it seem as though someone was following behind. When I reach the end, there is a door, and the continuation of the hallway on the right.  I take the right and go all the way to the limits of the hallway, there on the left is a door. My cousins childhood bedroom, I remember sleeping over, and how i had many colorful memories there. I turn the nob and open the door, I look inside and it was exactly the same, just a little more dusty. The two beds on either side of the room, one with pink bed sheets, and the other with light purple. The walls still slick with the pastel pink that covered them. It was bare now, only the beds, and white nightstands next to them. The closet still slightly cracked open from the last time the youngest one was here, packing her bags for college. That was two years ago, when I was 17, my cousin 18 at the time. We were all now older, me 19, my youngest cousin, Milie 20, and my oldest cousin Kylie, 21. We were all separated by a year going oldest to youngest, but since we were close in age we were all best friends.

But now, the room looked dusted and old, almost in a stand still from the past. I smile at it, remembering the childish innocent we used to have. But no more, I turn, and close the door behind me, the door creaking behind making a small thump as it closed. The handle jiggling as I release it.

I breath in and release a sigh full of happiness and relief that the house still held the memory's of my childhood. I take only two steps infront of me to the next door across from my cousins room. The master bedroom, I remember my uncle being a civil man, wasn't much for fanciness, but his wife loved to decorate. I open the door to the room and see that the room is clean, just like my uncle said it would be in the will. I walk up to big bay window in the front and look out. A long winding road was visible from the autumn trees that connected to the driveway. I turned taking in a breath, the bed was on the opposite wall of the window, the door to the hallway was in the middle of the wall and the bathroom and closet doors were on the wall parallel to the hallway door. The walls are a pastelish gold pink, and the bed has black sheets with a gold lace on it. All of my stuff was still in my car, I had to look in the house before I started unpacking. Then my phone started ringing, I take my phone out of my pocket to see who it was, 'mom' lights up on my phones, I press the answer button and put it up to my ear, "hello." I say greeting my mother.
