4. dangerous boredom

Myrina missed being a child. She missed being able to go outside, climb trees, and make mud pies. She missed making small houses for fae and weave flower crowns together. Being an adult was definitely not all that it was cracked up to be. Especially right now, as a young royal, who was someday going to get more duties and eventually going to rule over a country.

Meetings, meetings, and more meetings. This made things difficult because she had always had a very hard time paying attention.

She was pretty sure that if she had to go to anymore dry meetings about politics her head was going to explode. She took in a deep breath in, wondering if she could make herself pass out and avoid more talk about territory and old white men arguing with each other.

She doubted she would be able to miss all of it, though. Plus, Myrina had a lot of preparations that she had to oversee that day and faking sick would only let those things that she needed to prepare stress her out. So, she resisted the urge to do something even more dramatic and instead counted tiles above her advisor's head as he droned on and on about things that she didn't care about.

She thought about the days when she was a kid again. How she would take in every breath of soft spring air and feel like she was breathing in new life.

She missed the feeling of being invigorated.

All she felt right now was this constant dullness that often manifested in a headache. It was definitely not the kind of thing that made her the best company in the world and she knew it. She ached for some sort of adventure.

Anything to stop the boredom.

She guessed that she should be careful what she wished for.

The first bad thing happened after Voski Jinn had dinner with her for the first time. She had really been hoping that it would go well but she soon found out that there was nothing that the two of them had in common.

This was not going to be good. She could already tell.

......*......

Four months into her work, Morana was proud of all the progression they had done. There was still an abundance of work that had to be handled and there was no way that she would get it all done in just one year, but she now had a livable street and a headquarters for her and the rest of her staff.

They had even cleared out a considerable amount of ash from the livable section of their kingdom.

It was small, but it was theirs.

That was the most important part of everything that she was doing. A little part of it was something that all of her followers had made. It was bright and vibrant despite the ash and misery this place was associated with.

They were healing.

One step at a time.

It was a slow and arduous process but Morana knew that she would get there eventually.
