Ever heard of HANAHAKI DISEASE? Yeah, somehow it’s the same but, this is BUTTERFLY AIL. HANAHAKI DISEASE was a famous trope, but BUTTERFLY AIL was different. BUTTERFLY AIL is happening when someone doesn’t have any idea for what coming through in their next life. The butterfly will come all of a sudden, flying around the human and land on them randomly, but each of the butterfly has their own meaning. That is what BUTTERFLY AIL is all about.

Today is the same… just like yesterday and the other day… I don’t know everything seem very same, nothing different anymore, I couldn’t enjoy the day anymore, even night couldn’t make me cry anymore, I feel numb, sick and hatred… happy? What is happy? I don’t know I lost it, I guess… I woke up everyday just to feel this boredom like everyday since that accident. What accident? Huh… is it worth to repeat the story? Yeah… for me it’s worth.

Ugh… again and again and again! I’m done… everytime I woke up, those two old humans were always fighting each other, I’ve had enough with the bickering and the shouting and the yelling. That old man, surely just had enough with losing all the bet in the gambling, and back home with fucking alcohol at his hand. While dad, he’s the best I guess… he is trying not to shout just to not waking me up. Yeah, I live with gay parents and both of them are black man, but hey they are the sweetest okay. I am their adoptive daughter. Actually, papi and dad were a good couple and lovely parents… I don’t know what happen, but this past 3 years, all papi doing is gambling and being drunk. I don’t know what is really happening, everytime I ask dad, he just smiling and tell me nothing wrong. Yeah… I just 15 years old, but looking at dad being the victim, I just couldn’t stand it anymore.

“Papi! CAN YOU STOP BEING DRUNK?! I HAD ENOUGH WITH YOU BACK HOME, LOSING THE GAMBLING, BEING DRUNK AND YELLING AT DAD!” I shout, leaving papi and dad in huge shocked. “Maria… that’s enough get ready to go to school okay darling…” dad pull me back trying not to create anymore mess in the morning. “No dad, I couldn’t stand anymore of all this shit, you guys were a great parent, and what happen now… I couldn’t stand that you are being victim of this drunk man!” I told dad, I look into his eyes, hoping for something, I don’t know what I’m hoping for but I just want something to be feel great and be normal again. “Maria, please I’m begging you, this is nothing… please, get ready for school darling, I don’t want you to be late,” dad said, cupping my cheek. Quiet, that’s all I can describe, I walk up to my room. Once I enter my room I saw a broken wing white butterfly, fighting its life to keep alive, I couldn’t do anything, I don’t know anything about butterfly, less than minute, the butterfly die. I don’t know why, but I did mourn for the dead butterfly… it just I feel the butterfly deserve the mourn, it fighting for its life but the end it just dead… “Come on… I couldn’t walk off from home with this emotion, dad surely want me to be happy everytime I walk out from home,” I said to myself, slightly slapping my face. I get ready, shower and wear something comfy. The weather on that morning was not too bright and not too dark, it’s breezy, waiting for the rain to pour down. I walk downstairs, seeing dad alone at the kitchen, making breakfast. Dad was a sweet man, he makes sure we eat something at the morning making sure we are fine, even he is fighting just now. “Dad…” I call. Dad turn back, looking up for me. “Oh darling, I’m sorry I’m late, sit down then we’ll eat.” Dad said with a sweet voice. I just nod, to be honest I feel guilty for shouting at dad and papi earlier. I sit down, and looking for papi. I think dad notice me. “Papi at the upstairs, in his reading room,” said dad. I stand up, walk to the upstairs. I’m nervous just for being in front of the papi reading room door. I knock the door. “Papi…” slowly I open the door and call out for him. I saw him, sitting at the chair, looking out at the window. I heard soft sobbing… I feel bad and worse. “Papi…” I call again, quick reaction from papi is wiping his eyes. “Maria…” he calls me back. I run towards papi, hug him all I can. “I’m sorry… I shouldn’t shout at you and dad earlier,” I said, holding back tears. “Hey… I know you have no intentions to do that, but that was a wise move, you quickly protect dad before something happen… and I’m sorrier for abandoning you and dad… I’m sorry I’m being a bad dad… I’m sorrier…” said papi. My tounge tied, I freeze, I don’t know what to say, all I can do is crying and sobbing. To be honest it’s been a long time since papi never hug me, I miss his warm hug. After we spend some minute, dad come upstairs, admiring us with his phone on his hand, recording us. “Oh god, what a gentlewoman… my daughter is grown up… she can protect others now… what a sweet girl turns into woman, it’s like just yesterday she was a sweet little baby girl, and today… she turns to be a gentlewoman…” dad said, with those ‘teary’ voice, wiping the tears. “Hahaha, what do you mean a woman, she still a baby, look at those cheeks, is squishy that’s mean she still a baby!” now now… papi decide to join dad acting, pinching my red cheeks, making me embarrassed to the death. God, what sin I commit to be involve in this act of the morning. Dad walk in, joining the hug, for that moment, it’s like what I’ve been hope is finally there… the feeling of the hope is bright shine making me fall deep into the mood. “Okay okay, now let’s go downstairs and have a breakfast before your baby girl late for her school.” I said, making both of them let go the hug and walk together down stairs and have the breakfast. While breakfast, dad and papi enjoying their time, laughing like the old time, I look into their eyes, full of hope and bright, making me smiling all alone.

Suddenly there someone on the door, quickly I walk to the door and open it, there we go, it’s Juliana. Juliana was my best friend ever and someone that I fall in love with. Yeah, I’m lesbian, I just realize it when Juliana starts to talk that she was bisexual 2 month ago. Dad ask for Juliana to join us for a while, at first she like a bit shy but then I pull her in, give her my seat and seat beside her. I realize, papi were looking at me with some kind of expression. I just couldn’t stop staring at Juliana, she just too sweet. “I’m sorry Juliana, you have to wait for Maria,” dad said, trying to tease me. “No, it’s okay, it’s fine, plus I already know how Maria is like, so this is nothing and… sometime when I come here to pick her it’s like some kind of sweet thing I like to do,” said Juliana, making me blushing hard. I can’t resist this, Juliana was a polite girl, sweet and cute, I think I could just hug her and kiss her there, but one thing is, she just my crush… hahaha… Papi were the only one who knew I have a crush on Juliana, it’s not like I don’t want to tell dad, but the first one who making move is papi, so I think I’ll better talk with papi. “Okay girls, it’s time already, I don’t want my baby girl and her girl late for school, plus I heard next week you guys have a prom right, better find your partner girls.” said papi, making me realize I still had the chance to ask Juliana to go prom with me. I smile toward papi. “Thank you!” I’m mouthing to papi. Papi just wink back to me.

Talking about prom next week, I decide to ask Maria to go out, that’s why I come to her house this morning, to be honest, I already talk to Maria’s dad about the plan, and he decide to help me with it. Before we walk out from the house, Maria’s dad calls me, I walk to him. “Hey, don’t worry Maria’s papi will help you too,” he said, making me more blush, knowing that Maria’s papi knowing about I like her daughter, I just nodded and smile. I saw Maria’s papi thumb up to me. “Juliana, we’re going to be late!” said Maria, calling my name. Actually, my name is pronounced Juliana with J but Maria? She pronounced it Khuliana. That’s what make it I feel for her. Yeah I know she was adoptive daughter, so I bet she was a Spanish after all. I just realize I was bisexual after like I spend 2 year being confused, until I become close friend with Maria, I realize I like both girl and boy the same, so I came out to Maria first, she really proud of me, until he ask me to come over to her house having a come out party, I know I like her before this, but I was worried and scared to admit it, so after I came out as bisexual, I know my feeling toward Maria doesn’t have to be something confusing anymore.

School suck, but I like school just because Juliana is with me, to be honest I spend all the time at school sleeping and being clingy to Juliana. Juliana and I were pretty famous, Juliana is famous because of her politeness and of course she is the prettiest girl, while me, I’m famous because I have 2 dads and my attitude when I’m around Juliana and don’t forget I like to be active in every activity. “Juliana… I’m bored… I’m sleepy… I’m hungry…” I grumble in sleepy voice. “Hey… Maria just waits a little more hour, then we back home okay?” said Juliana, putting her head on the table so she can look my face, once I realized she smiling wide, quickly I use my hair to cover my blushing face. “Wake me up when we gonna back home…” I said hiding my face.

Finally! Its time go back home, suddenly I’m energetic hyping Juliana to be fast so that I can do what I want with her later. “Hey, Juliana do you want to go out, before we back home?” I ask. “Mm… where?” Juliana asks. I look out at the window for a while. Nice the weather is perfect! “Just come, if I told you, it will be not fun…” I said, I turn on my phone, perfect my phone battery still full!

“Hi auntie, it’s me Maria”

“Maria, why do you call?”

“Can I ask your permission to take your daughter out, I’ll promise she will be back before dinner!”

“Hahaha, Maria you are so sweet, why bother to ask me, just take her out!”

“I’m so grateful to hear the answer from you auntie, Thank you so much!”

“Your welcome, Maria. Have a nice day!”

“And you too auntie!”

“You call my mom?” ask Juliana, shocked. “Yes, I call her, now now… your mom gives us permission faster, I can’t wait to walk with you!” I said hyping. Juliana giggling looking my attitude, completely changed. We walk about 45 minutes to arrive that place, actually Juliana never goes there, I often go there in the middle of night, everytime I feel sad and worse. “Okie, here we are… my favorite place!” I said yelping, excited. It was another side of the beach, people never goes here because it was pretty hide, I found it because I was in worse mood. “God… Maria this is so… so beautiful!” said Juliana. “I know right, I found this place 1 year ago… it never disappoints me… I sneak out every middle of night, come here and feel the breezy…” I said, holding Juliana hand walking between the big rock. “You what? you sneak out in the middle of night? For like 1 years?” Juliana said, totally in huge shocked. I just laugh awkward. “Hehe… the place just nice, so I can’t resist… plus this is the other side of that damn dirty beach…” I said, imagining people making out literally at there, blegh! Juliana face palming, shakes her head unbelievable. “Wait… there still one more thing I want to show, come here hold my hand.” I said, give my hand to Juliana.

Without hesitation I hold Maria’s hand, I can see maria smile and blushing. She brings me somewhere, holding my hand tight, carefully lead me. “Here,” Maria said. I can see a handmade swing right on the calm and clear sea water revealing white sand and some beautiful shells at the bottom. “Wow… this is so nice… how did-“ “I built them all by myself… I wait for the right moment to bring you here… Hehe…” said Maria, cut off my question, smiling widely. Oh god, this girl in front right me, I just wish I could kiss her right at that time, this cheeky girl… sometime I just couldn’t expect what she’s been doing. Maria is literally full of surprise. “Come on… have a try on it!” said Maria, leading me to sit at the swing. I walk and sit on the swing, she even decorates the swing rope with flower, it so nice. She pushed me slowly, so I didn’t fall and wet my shirt, while she pushed me, my leg was playing with the sea water. “Hey, I just could imagine you wearing the prom dress, sitting on the swing, and the nature literally playing their part, you must will be the most precious girl ever in this world.” Maria said, with a big smile. I’m sorry, I just couldn’t resist this girl anymore, I walk turn back, facing Maria, holding her squishy cheeks, bring our faces together, I can feel her warm breath. Finally, I kiss her! Her lips were so soft, I don’t really know what to do, I almost cut off the kiss, but…

I grab Juliana faces, deepen our kiss, I couldn’t believe it is happening. We pull out the kiss, catching breath, with shocked expression from our face, smile slowly to been show from our face. “Hey… Do you want to go prom with me?” I ask. Juliana’s smile even widely. With tears on her face “Yes I do!” Juliana answer, yelping making me smile to the ear. We put our forehead together, softly sobbing. The feeling was really true… not just that, papi and dad also enjoying their time this morning, that really make me happier, that I could just burst out of tears at that moment.
