The Beginning of The End

It's been a month since I left home. And, I won't lie. It's hard to survive in the endless sea of people. But I enjoy it.

The struggle, the pain, and the overtime work that my boss has given me. Note the sarcasm.

Even though I didn't have any experience, Minerva Mills, my boss, was kind enough to hire me as her secretary from all the applicants that applied for the position. And, I'll be forever indebted to her for that, as she saved me from my demons.

Ms Mills is pretty, smart, and talented. Probably, the reason why the M-the third eye security company is so successful and partnered with almost all the top companies.

Our sole purpose is to provide protection, whether it is physical protection or data protection. These are the types of employee one can find in our company, and I fall in none of those categories.

I'm a mere secretary, who finalizes all the reports, schedules meeting, and all those sorts of things.

"Phew! Finally. All done...", sighing, I glanced towards the CEO's cabin. Recently, we bagged a huge deal,

and she's been working on it non-stop for days. Obviously, all the employees too.

It's 11'O clock right now, and she's been cooped up in her office all day long. I wonder if I should inform her that I'm going home when the sudden ringing of mobile broke my chain of thoughts.

"Hello!     S... Sir, your order is here." the man on the other line spoke nervously, as if I'm going to eat him up for being late.

"I'm coming." replying nonchalantly, I hanged up the call. I won't lie, I originally planned to scold him for being late, but all my anger dissolved when I saw the guy, drenched in rain, shivering now and then.

Striding towards him, I took the takeout and handed him the money.

"Keep the change." I said, or more like ordered, and shoved my umbrella in his hands. He looked astonished with his mouth hanging open as if he couldn't believe what was happening. I wasn't kind or anything close to that, I did it for myself, otherwise I would have tossed and turned all night without a wink of sleep if I didn't. With so much going on in my life, I couldn't afford to forsake my peace of mind for that little encounter.

Without bothering to explain anything, I turned around and was on my way back to the office.

Placing the takeout on the char, I tidied my desk and neatly placed all the documents in order. Now, all I had to do was inform Ms. Mills that I'm off for the day.

Chewing my lips nervously, I knocked on the CEO's door when I heard the faint voice, "Come in."

Entering the cabin, I saw Ms. Mills going through piles of paperwork that had to be signed. When I noticed her pressing her forehead as if she was having a headache. Happens to me all the time, so I could relate to it.

"Umm... Ms. Mills. I just wanted to let you know that I have organized all the documents, and I'm off to home." I said calmly, even though my limbs were about to fall off from exhaustion.

"Yeah. Okay." she dismissed me while flicking her fingers as if she wanted to be left alone.

Swinging the sling bag, I held the takeout and trudged towards the elevator when I glanced back at Ms. Mill's office, weighing the consequences of my actions if I went with my heart.

This is one of the stupidest thing, which I can't help to not do. It's hard for me to sit by when I know I can help, even though it might come with a heavy price.

Now, I was in a dilemma, whether to give her the food or take it back with me. Maybe I should give it to her. She is probably dying from hunger, as I never saw her eat lunch today, and give her some headache pills too. Yes! This is it.

I have decided. I will hand it to her along with the food. Simple.

All I hope is she doesn't misunderstand or something. I'm just looking out for her as her secretary, nothing else. Yeah.

Giving myself a little boost, I opened the drawer, and took out the pills. Knocking on her door again, I entered the office as she laid back on the chair. Perhaps taking a break or something. Who cares? I don't.

"I ordered some food. You didn't have lunch today. So here you go, and these are for your headache. Have one after you eat it if you want too, obviously. It's nothing much, but you can have it. Or do whatever you want to do with it. That's all. And, I'm leaving. Yeah.... Umm..... Goodnight." I rambled nervously without meeting her eyes while she kept staring at me and didn't utter anything for a few seconds, which made the whole thing a lot more awkward than it was.

****. We keep it all professional, but there are times when it's too much for me to sit by and watch her struggle. Stupid me.

Whatever. Elvis. It's none of my business.

Leaving the building hurriedly as if my *** was on fire, which kind of was, I hailed a cab. I wouldn't lie, but Ms. Mills scared me a lot for some unknown reason. It might be her intense gaze or her alpha female aura, but whatever it was, it scared the living shit out of me whenever I was within her 10-meter radius.

The cab drove through the hustle and the bustle of the lively city towards my new home that I recently bought. My

apartment was a little far from my office. It takes almost an hour, which gives me enough time to think through life and all kind of shits. It's kind of relaxing, at least for me.

This month has been extremely hectic. I was lucky. I found an apartment and a well paid job. Otherwise, I would be probably looking for one right now.

Originally, I wasn't looking to settle down here. But, I need all the money I can get right now. I'm thinking where to go next Switzerland, Germany, or maybe somewhere else. I'll probably wander around for a long, long while till I let someone shackle me down willingly.

Till then, I won't be caged.
