Prologue - Welcome Back

They say, the urge to survive can overpower your weakness’. But what if your weakness is to survive? -Leana

The translucent curtain fluttering woke Leana from her nap. Everyone was outside at Gym class, however Leana was adamant about stay in the classroom. She had made up an excuse to stay, but in reality she just didn’t want to stand alone, having no partner and having to work with the gym teacher, was embarrassing. This was her fifth time not attending Gym class with an excuse. She knew that she couldn’t keep this up but at least she didn’t have to feel embarrassed.

There was no doubt that Leana was a lonely girl. Even people who didn’t know her could tell she was a timid and unsociable person. This made it even harder for classmates and even teachers to interact with her. People grew annoyed of her, they thought she was an arrogant and lazy person. But in truth she was just an introverted girl.

Gym class had ended and people were entering the room. They ghosted Leana or perhaps didn’t notice her at all. People would only talk to her if they needed something for her, which was not often. She wasn’t academically smart nor was she extraordinarily beautiful, and she wasn’t popular either. She was conceivably plain. She wasn’t bullied often but she already knew what people thought of her. Which was enough to bring her down.

Her family didn’t adore her but neither did they hate her. They were more attentive toward their first and third child. Akemi the first child was academically smart and was beautiful enough in their eyes. Eve, their second child was extraordinarily beautiful and many people adored her.

Upon returning home the tv was on, her family all around the living room. It wasn’t a rare sight but they seemed excited. “Tonight there will be a large meteor shower and it can be viewed by the whole region. It is said to start during 10 P.M and ending until tomorrow morning. It is quite a rare sight since we don’t get many meteor showers here and to have a large meteor shower is exceptional.”

They continued to talk about the meteor shower in excitement as Leana was in her room doing her homework. She wondered what the point was anyways. Why was she trying to do something she wasn’t good at? But nonetheless she continued to work on her homework.

Without realizing it, it was already 10:30 P.M. Her curtains were translucent and the illuminated light of the meteor shower was shown. She went over to look at the meteor shower and her eyes were quickly fixated. Such a beautiful sight should be able exist, she thought.

The next day Leana woke up from a restless sleep. She had stayed up until 2 A.M. watching the meteor shower.

Leana was dozing off and couldn’t pay attention in class until she heard something interesting. “And so I’m sure a lot of you know about the meteor shower yesterday. It was quite an extraordinary sight, and it’s also probably why you are all falling asleep in my class. Now, when a meteor shower occurs the starsfalling never reach Earth. They disintegrate into dust that float in the air. However, I’m not sure if you delinquents watched the news this morning, or ever at all, but it is said that one of the meteors fell to earth without disintegrating. This is a remarkable occurrence that is surely to be recorded in history.”

School was just about over and he sky was an ominous blue. A blue that Leana never saw before. The wind was strong. Walking home from school the wind had blew her red silk scarf. It blew next to the group of students behind her. One guy had caught the scarf and just as Leana thought that he was about to hand it to her her let go of the scarf, making it fly along the wind. The group laughed and teased Leana as she stood there in disbelief.

The group left and Leana sighed as she continued to walk home without a scarf to cover her cold neck. Unbeknownst to her, a guy behind her had caught the scarf. The guy approached Leana from behind and wrapped the scarf around her neck and walked away. Leana had a nostalgical feeling but it quickly faded away. She wanted to thank the guy but was too shy to approach him.

Leana arrived home to hear the excitement of her family. “I’m so proud of you!” Her mom said. “Congratulations Akemi!” Eve said. Leana wondered what was going on but her answer was answered once Eve said, “I can’t believe your going to such an elite university!” Leana wasn’t partially annoyed nor jealous, but maybe she felt disappointed in herself.

The next day Leana work up with a bit of a headache and once she looked in the mirror her eyes widened. She first rubbed her eyes then the mirror to see if there was something wrong. There surely was. Her once brown hair had turned to dark brown, black almost. Her brown eyes had turned into a deep red. She thought maybe it was her headache that was causing her to see things or maybe she was dreaming.

She barged into the living room and pointed at her eyes and then her hair. Her mom was shocked and said “What the hell did you do Leana!?” “I-I woke up like this..!” Leana responded. “Seriously? Who’s gonna believe that?” Eve said. “Goodness gracious, why did you dye your hair black?” Her mom asked. “Do you have contacts on?” Akemi asked. They didn’t believe in whatever Leana had to say. Leana went on to school with her dark brown/black hair and her sister’s contacts that matched her original eye color.

While walking to school she was stopped by a guy who called her “Vi.” She had the same nostalgic feeling and realized he was the same guy who had gave her her scarf back. “T-Thank you!” Leana yelled out of no where and quickly covered her mouth in embarrassment. He smirked and sighed in relief. He patted her head and said “Welcome back Vi.”
