The Letter ( One Shot )

I’ve just moved into a new apartment recently . It looks and is pretty normal . It’s not actually that bad , it’s cosy and is big enough for me . It’s also in pretty good condition and supplies everything I need .

It’s actually great . The kitchens spacious , the walls are painted a nice green colour and there’s even a balcony !

But there’s one thing that’s weird ... It’s the amount of sound coming from the door . I constantly hear knocking . I check it just in case sometimes. But the result is always the same ... nothing . I wonder if my door is actually the thing that is broken . If it is then I should ask the land lord to fix it soon .

As usual I’m just sitting on the couch and chillin’ , doing my own thing . Still in my PJs searching the web and eating potato chips . I suddenly hear the knocking coming from the door again . I bet the knocking is just from the annoying neighbour’s children next door or maybe it’s just an animal scratching the door . I don’t actually know , but it’s so damn annoying . I stand up and drag myself over to the door still dead from sitting on the couch for too long .

I open the door cautiously . I expected nothing , as usual .

But to my surprise there lay a crisp white letter . I slide the paper out of the envelope . It was a letter, a hand written letter . Their handwriting looked disheveled with endless loops .

This handwriting did not match anyone that I knew of . How unusual . I start reading the letter and it says :

Dear Akane ,

I’ve finally gathered up the courage to send this letter to you . I’ve been away , studying abroad for 8 years , I’m not sure if you can recall me . I wouldn’t blame you if you forgot . After all , I did leave so abruptly and without a warning beforehand . I also couldn’t contact you back then because I was so busy studying . When I did have the chance I tried sending letters to you , but they never got through . They never got through because my parents held them back . They didn’t want me contacting you , they thought ‘ friends ‘ were a burden . I finally broke away from their control when I reached the legal age . When I broke free from their chains I immediately came to find you .

I missed you . All these years I’ve been missing you .

The truth is that I’ve always loved you . Ever since we were children I had a crush on you since we were little . After when I left to study abroad those feelings began to blossom , that childhood crush slowly became love .

It pained me to be away from you for such a long period of time . My heart ached every time I thought of your charming and gentle smile . I kept recalling all the small petty conversations we had with each other .

If you are willing to forgive me please meet me at our usual spot that we always met . If you don’t remember then it’s the sunflower field .

I will be waiting ...

From Kurose

As soon as I finished reading the letter I rushed over to the sunflower field that Kurose was referring to in the letter. I ran with the tears still wet on my eyes and the letter tight in my grip because the truth is I’ve always loved you too and I’ll forever love you.

The sunflower field was extremely close to my apartment, it was only about half a kilometre away. I deliberately chose such a close place because I always knew that you’d come back to find me.

When I finally arrived at the sunflower field I stopped to take a breath and as I raised my head I say a figure in the distance that was so very familiar. It was the boy I played with nearly every day 8 years ago.

He was staring into the distance but as if he could sense my presence he turned his head towards me and smiled gently locking eyes with me. I wiped my eyes and smiled at him ever so brightly as I run towards him with my arms wide open.

I run up and hug him. He whispers in my ear, ‘ I love you. ‘

‘ I love you too, you big fat dummy ‘ I say as I bawl my eyes out.
