"Lucia wakes up "

It was my mum's voice that wakes me up for another day. To day is sunday and as usual I have a lot to do.

" I'm coming"

I go out and notice that my mum is ready to go out. She looks at me up and down

" What are you going to cook today?"

I raise up my shoulder meaning that I don't know but she angrily says:

" So you want me to go out and cook for you right? Anyway I'm leaving your father is still asleep when you get up, ask him money for food"

I nod

" So you've decided not to speak hein, I respect your decision, great Josi for me"

Since my sister's accident, my mum gets angry for everything and nothing.

I was washing the dishes, envying that life I had before when everything was fine in comparison to what I have now.

" Lucia! Please place water in the toilet I will take a bath" my father ordered

I was coming out from the toilet and he asked

" Are you sick?"

I nod to say no

" Why are you pale and getting slim like this? Is something bothering you?"

I nod to say no

"Ok if you have any problem tell me okay"

" Okay daddy"

He washed, prepared himself, ate the remaining food and left. Suddenly after my brother left also and as usual I found myself all alone at home with my sister. I finished with my house chores, helped my sister to wash herself and we were eating together when she said

" Has everybody left ?" I look at her and noticed that she was very sad

" Yes! But mum bade you good morning and she said that she would not last outside"

We continue eating and after five minutes, josi continues

"Only you are always besides me luci, sometimes I feel alone"

" You're not alone every where our parents are they think about you, they do their best to supply all our needs and make us happy"

She nods and smiles. Despite her situation she has not lost her joy even though she weeps sometimes she is full of faith and strength. And laid down beside her and my thoughts went to the past.

[ One Friday at 4pm ]

We were all at home but josi was not yet back and my parents were worried. They went to meet my sister's mate who is our neighbor to ask but the girl's mother said that she was not back yet.

After some minutes, a bike stops in front of our compound and my sister and her mate were on it . I went and told my mum that my sister is back and she came out.

"What is it" my mother ask. From what I heard, they were coming from school when my sister said that her feet are heavy and painful, they rested a bit thinking it was tiredness but no after they rested nothing has changed so they have taken a bike.

My mother carried her inside and explained everything to my father. They agree to take her to the hospital the next day.

I cannot exactly say what happened at the hospital but my mother called her mother and inform her that the doctor found no medical explanations to that situation and my sister couldn't move without a crutch. There was a lot of agitations soon after and I went in my room to see my sister who was very calm. She looked at me and I was expecting her to smile but instead of it she wept bitterly, I was 7 years old and had nothing to tell her but I wiped her tears away and for the first time she asked me

" Will I be paralyzed?" After a while, I only said:

" I don't know but nobody here wants to see you lame"

She said nothing and asked me to leave her alone. For the first time I felt useless to her, for the first time she rejected my présence.

I went to the kitchen outside and wept deeply and my brother saw me and comforted me but he didn't stay for long.

In the silence of the night, I made a little prayer, I wanted everything to get better and didn't want anyone especially my sister to suffer, to stop dreaming and playing.

The next day after doing our house chores my mum asked my sister to get ready because they will go to see a native doctor with whom they have an appointment.

" Why mum? " Josi asked

" To know what is going on. You were not deaf when the doctor said he sees no problem with your feets. Thus, if hospital cannot help us, we shall look for solution elsewhere"

After saying it she left .

  15 minutes later, a father's car stops in front of the house and they went to see that doctor as my mum's said.

I also took advantage that my parents were not there to play with my friends and being surrounded with people made me think about something else.

Later that evening, my parents and sister went back. My sister as usual has kept us so we followed her while my parents went to talk in their room. She didn't mention anything concerning their meeting. We ate what she kept, talked and laughed. We spent a good time and seeing my sister happy made me forget all my questions. I just availed that moment and wanted it not to finish but soon after we had to go and sleep.

When I got out from my thoughts, I had to go and fetch water before the owner keeps the bucket. After fetching water, I cooked sweet potato on the remaining fried beans. Once I finished doing the remaining task, I took a bath and put everything inside when my brother came back we locked the door eat and played Ludo and card with my sister.

At 8 my parents went back home and after eating we make a family game and we talked about many things. I looked at my sister and she was relaxed, it seems she has forgotten her problems and was just playing and talking with us I was just full of joy.
