Reborn

Waking up with a splitting headache, Sheng Yi was trying to organize her thoughts. It wasn't long back when she was sentenced to death and was hanged for murder.

As it turns out it was her sister who was the actual culprit and she was framed for it just because her family couldn't bear to let their darling daughter go to prison. How did she know? It was because she was shown a novel when she was in what mortals like to call the inbetween. The novel felt very intimate to her for some reason and it didn't take long before she realised that this was actually the world she lived in for 27 years.

Being the first born Sheng Yi was always more responsible and handled most of the housework for her parents so that they could go out and earn money. Taking care of the chores and her brother Sheng Li, she matured early for her age and hence never knew how to act cute infront of her parents. Sheng Man her younger sister on the other hand, was a walking embodiment of a cute and adorable princess. Things started to look good for her parents' business in a few years and life became easier for the family. However Sheng Yi started to get isolated in this flourishing household. Her parents were patriarchal and thus treated Sheng Li like he was their everything. Sheng Man was very good at acting coquettish and pitiful thus she ended up in a much better state than Sheng Yi who thought that her parents naturally knew her love for this family and she need not be flashy about it as Sheng Man was.

This however, became the cause of her death eventually. One fine day, when Sheng Yi returned home the sight that greeted her was heartbreaking. Her sister was crying bitterly while her mother was trying to console her, whereas, the look on her father and brother's face was very grim. About an hour later, she knew the whole truth about the situation at home. Someone was murdered infront of her sister and somehow all the evidence pointed at her. The police would be here any time now, to arrest Sheng Man, and she was terrified of going with them. While Sheng Yi was thinking carefully on how to come out of this situation, she saw her mother come up to her and hold her hands.

This shocked Sheng Yi as her mother was never one to hug her or caress her, even when she fell ill. With a pleading look in her eyes Mrs. Sheng said to Sheng Yi, "Yiyi you know how your sister has been pampered from a young age. She really can't go to prison. How about you confess that this was all your plan?". Sheng Yi ear seemed to ring and she had a blank face with a look of confusion in her eyes. Wanting to make sure that she didn't misinterpret what her mom said, Yiyi asked, "Mom you said that ManMan has witnessed the murder. Why not tell the police who the real murderer is? Even if she doesn't know her identity we can have the police take our description and come up witha. portrait to help with their investigation."

Hearing her words Mrs. Sheng's face turned ugly and she started shouting like a wanton woman "You ungrateful wench. We have done soo much to bring you up and paid for your food and shelter. This is how you repay us? Can't you Make way for your sister for once? She has such a bright future ahead of her, how can you bear to see her suffer?"

Yiyi was still trying to talk sense to her mom whom she thought was just emotionally unstable when there was a loud thud. Yiyi turned towards the noise and saw her father standing with anger written all over his face. "Enough. It is decided that ManMan will give a statement saying it was you who instigated it. We will try to get the sentence reduced as much as possible so you don't have to worry."

Everything after that seemed to be a blurred memory for her. All she knew was that she was sentenced to death for muder and her family didn't bat an eyelid while false testimonies were being given out in the court. Till her last breath Sheng Yi wondered 'Was it me who did something wrong? Even if I am not the most favoured child shouldn't my parents atleast have some pity for me? How could they abandon me soo easily without as much decency to try and get me out? Alas everything was in vain because her family never once came to meet her nor did they call her after she was arrested.

The day she died, she thought that she was finally free from the shackles of this world which never gave her the happiness that she always wished for. But fate had some different plans. After her death she was stuck in what most people call the inbetween for a few days. There she saw a book and having nothing to do, she casually picked up the book and started reading the book. Finishing the book just as she was still comprehending what she read, a white light flashed and she was brought back here. Looking across the place which was once her much loved bedroom, Yiyi was dumbfounded at what happened, till her head started spinning and memories started flowing back to her.
