The X Virus
Shay ran through the crowded streets as his eyes went wide with horror and fear. Three infected had breached the wall and stood right in front of him. He knew he had to do something but what!? He was just a kid and had no weapons on him.
"hah! look at them!" the biggest and clear leader spat with a laughing smile
"No Guards?" another spoke with a sly but careful voice as she looked around "No bells or alarms? Odd is it not?" she said looking to the sky.
"we're too far from the capital city! No one cares about these fools!" The third one smiled as the crowd around the three began to run away in all directions, some running into others whilst Shay stood frozen in shock as the three infected laughed. The street soon emptied out all except for dead bodies and Shay.
"Why didn't you run?~" the second infected spoke with a sly smile as the other two began to rampage through the city. "Maybe you're interested in our power? or you hate us so much you couldn't run? hehe" she spoke so softly that it scared him more but it was true, the power of the infected and more so why the female infected hadn't killed him yet. "here I'll help you out a bit~ I'll turn you into an infected and you let me live on in your mind~" she continued with the same seductive and calm act while walking closer to him.The second infected was now behind him. "What do you say, little one?" the female infected asked in a sweet tone. She wasn't going to let him die here right? Before Shay could do anything she bit onto his neck, her teeth were like razors as they dug into his throat and began to rip into his throat. Blood poured out onto the ground as the dirt and sand turned red as the infected released her jaw from his neck as he fell to the ground. As she walked towards Shay again she pulled out a knife, "oh don't worry... I'll make sure you never die. And then we can play together!" she said with a crazed look.
She plunged the knife into Shay's chest and ripped it downwards into him. Blood splashed across her face as an insane laugh escaped her mouth. Shays vision began to fade as spots clouded his sight and he slowly fell unconscious the last words he heard from her were like knives that dug into his soul "Now you can never escape me~" Shay almost didn't notice that her mouth didn't move when she spoke, yet her voice was so loud it was the only thing he could hear before completely falling unconscious. When he woke up his arms were bound together by a thick rope and his neck wound was patched up.
"Where am I!?" he pleaded for an answer as he saw two men in white trench coats stood their uniforms were exactly the same with bright blue patterns. Shay looked around the dark and damp room until his eyes landed on a small kid, they wore a bright red scarf and had reddish-brown hair with caramel brown eyes. She looked young, around 15 and had a twisted smile plastered on her face.
"welcome Shay, I'm Dimo'' she spoke happily walking up to Shay giving him a better look at her, she had a katana on her hip and a dagger in hand although She Knew she was human because of her eyes and instead of gray skin she had dark tan skin "You are the only surviving person from district Casein. How?" she questioned, her tone was laced with confusion and interest.
"I-I'm not sure.." Shay spoke with worry and concern as he gently touched his neck where the infected being bit into him.
"Well I have reason to suspect that you are still alive because you're infected" She smiled as her hand neared her katana. Shay's heart began to race as Dimo shifted her footing and gripped her katana tightly.
"and law says to kill any and all infected~"
Shay began to struggle in an attempt to escape.
"Don't move too much! I might miss it!" She said as she drew her blade and cut the ropes all in one single motion. She then placed her katana back into its sheath.
"See! Not a scratch!" she spoke so proudly of herself that Shay couldn't help but smile a bit.
"So you're not gonna kill me?" Shay quizzed with worry and relief.
"Why would I! You survived an Infected attack and your DNA sample came back as human." She smiled widely as Shay tried to get up only to be stopped, "Stay down there! The guards will be coming back soon and they're gonna want my report, not yours." she started pointing to his neck and making it worse by ripping the stitches further. "If they find you I won't save you anymore! Understand?" she questioned as she grabbed ahold of his shirt. Shay nodded his head in understanding and pain and Dimo helped him up. Her fingers traced over the wound on his neck before pulling a piece of cloth from her pocket and pressed it against the open wound and held the material tight in place, Shay winced from the sudden feeling of pain that radiated throughout his body, even though it felt good, Shay's mind began to wonder about how he ended up here, and how long he was going to stay here. A few hours passed and a tall muscular guard opened the door, "Ah yes commander Dimo, many apologies you've been waiting for me." he said as he bowed and Dimo pulled Shay outside and into the bright light, it hurt Shay's eyes for a moment but he was able to stand on his own despite the fact he kept stumbling slightly trying to keep up with the taller man.
"Commander, are you ready? We still need to inform the High Command as well as the Governor about what happened here." the guard explained as they made their way through the large crowds, which seemed to grow larger every second.
"Of course! But this time I have something even more important for you to do." She replied, causing the guard to tilt his head in confusion.
"Something more important than killing a few infected and making a profit?" The guard asked in a cocky tone.
"Yes." Dimo replied with a grin that only added to the guard's irritation "This one is special. It has a very important mission to complete and we need you to complete it perfectly, understand? Now get on it!" Dimo ordered, the guard saluted as he ran to the front gates of the city and quickly disappeared. "That idiot." Dimo cursed under her breath with a smirk before turning to Shay and smiling "Welcome to the Guard!" she greeted with a wide smile before leading Shay to a carriage that was standing beside it.
They rode in silence for quite some time as they headed to the town where the Guard headquarters is located. Dimo didn't say a word as the ride took several minutes longer than expected. Dimo got out first and opened the door for Shay as he followed closely behind her "follow me, I know the way!" she announced. As they continued walking through the crowded streets. "We're here!" Dimo exclaimed.
As she opened a door Shay looked into the familiar room to see multiple soldiers of varying sizes, shapes and colors dressed in military uniform stood at attention. They didn't take notice of the boy who stood beside Dimo and Dimo stepped forward to the middle of the hall where she stood. "Attention!" she commanded before looking back to Shay. "This is the newest batch of recruits, and I expect everything to go well!" she stated confidently. The people standing before them all had different faces, different emotions and personalities. Some stood strong but some showed nervousness in their eyes as if they had just seen a ghost as they looked at the boy standing next to Dimo. He smiled shyly as everyone began whispering among themselves.
"He isn't a threat! Look at how adorable he is!" a soldier said as she pointed to Shay with her gun. Dimo glared daggers at her as Shay began to sweat nervously.
"Silence! All of you! We need to begin training him!" Dimo demanded. "Come with me. You must introduce yourselves and explain yourself as quickly as possible!"
"What!? Training?!" Shay began with confusion and per fear, he had just survived an Infected attack and now he's training to be a part of the guard!? What did that even mean! "W-"
"Yes, that is all I need to talk to you about for now. Come along Shay" She spoke with a sigh "we both have places to be after all." As she led him away from everyone else leaving everyone confused but no one dared speak up or stop them.
"So... where are we off to first?" Shay asked hesitantly as the pair entered another room.
"This is one of our training rooms, you can practice fighting, sparring, shooting, and all sorts of other stuff to gain skills and build muscle" she explained, as she looked through some bookshelves and grabbed a couple of leather and metal weapons for him to use with.
"Sparring..?" Shay asked, looking at the weapons in her hands curiously.
"Of course! You know.. to train our new recruits to defend themselves against the Infected.. That and also to learn how to fight and defend ourselves without hurting each other" she spoke, she put down the weapons she found and picked up a wooden sword and a shield, "now come here and I'll teach you how to use these and how to wield them." She said with excitement in her voice.
Shay stared at her blankly for a moment, he didn't want to hurt anyone, but what other choice did he have? "Sure.." he finally answered while walking towards her.
Dimo smiled brightly as she lifted the sword above her head "okay Shay! Just swing this and try to hit me!" She instructed while stepping back slightly, as Shay swung his sword at nothing and hit the wall with force. "Again! Aim for the center of my chest this time!" She shouted as Shay slowly swung at her again with increasing strength until suddenly she pushed the sword out of his hand and sent it flying through the air knocking Shay on his ***, "Wow, you're a lot stronger than I thought! This is great!" she said while picking up his sword and handing it to him again.
"Thank you... I hope it doesn't take me that long..." he trailed off, he wasn't too sure about learning how to use a sword but he'd be lying if he said he didn't enjoy watching her train with excitement.
"Don't worry I'm certain that you won't be in training for the rest of your life." She laughed as she patted his back "Now let's start again" she stated, while placing his sword on the ground.
It went like that for hours as both Dimo and Shay practiced their swordsmanship till sunset. At the end of their training, Shay was covered in bruises but he still felt content and even pride in his skills. Dimo smiled brightly as she tossed her sword into a rack landing perfectly and walked up to Shay
"Let's see what you can really do now~" Dimo said as she grabbed a katana that was attached to her hip and charged at him with speed that looked almost impossible to Shay. He was left to watch helplessly as Dimo swung the sword up at his neck, yet right before it cut into him she stopped and looked down at the ground.
"How the fuck did YOU kill a S rank infected!?" she spat with disappointment and hate. Shay was terrified, he had just woken up from what he thought was his death! and now some crazy commander in the guard said he was joining the guard!? And the infected that he thought killed him was dead! This day just felt like too much.
"I have led assault after assault to kill that bitch and you killed her with nothing but a stick!!" She shouted again with annoyance
"I didn't kill the infected! It bit me and I passed out!" Shay retorted with fear as tears began to well up in his eyes
"...If you didn't kill the bastard then who did.." she trailed off with concern laced in her words but soon she shook her head and snapped back "nevermind we will figure it out later!" She said as she stormed off to her private quarters to pack her belongings so she could leave and meet up with the Governor once again.
Shay looked down and wiped away the stray tear from his eye as he began to make his way out of the room, however he quickly fell face first onto the floor when someone jumped on top of him. "Ow!" He screamed as he tried to move himself off the ground only to feel someone punch him straight in the stomach as he fell once more. He gasped as he rolled over to see a young looking blond boy glaring at him with anger. "Who are you?!" The little boy yelled as he gripped tightly onto his collar. "Why am I here?!"
